Police solve murder case; five held

Karwar, April 2: The Haliyal police on Saturday arrested five persons regarding a murder case.

Maruthi Torlekar of Kawalwada village in Haliyal was murdered on April 18, 2011.

The police arrested Arun Hanumanth Torlekar (35), Basavaraj Devendra Chipti (35), Mudukappa Appayya Khandekar (33), Santappa Yallappa Bawkar (35), and Narayan Lakshman Uppar (45). According to a pres release issued by the police department, Maruthi had left his home to go to the farm on April 18.

However, two days later his body was found in a well. Arun, Maruthi's brother, had an illicit relationship with Maruthi's wife Renuka.

On April 18, 2011, Arun allegedly hit Maruthi with a sickle and then strangled him to death. Later, taking help from the other accused the body was throw into the well, the police said.
