Pilakhuwa (Uttar Pradesh), May 10 : The parents of a one and a half month old baby girl have been arrested for trying to bury their child alive in a graveyard. The incident happened in UP's Pilakhuwa town which is located just 100 kilometres from the national capital.

The incident came to light on Wednesday, when one if the trustees who was at the burial ground heard a baby cry and figured something amiss. He then alerted the police who arrested 35-year-old Bharati Rani and her husband Dinesh Kumar. Also arrested is Dinesh's brother who was with the couple at the burial ground.

Bharati has reportedly told the police she was burying the child on the advice of a godman after he told her that this would protect the rest of her children from serious illnesses in the future. The couple had allegedly lost a child to an incurable illness last year. So on Wednesday, the three reached the burial ground with the baby who was saved by the alert trustee.

The police however have not been able to trace the godman yet.
