Bengaluru cops raid IPL illegal betting sites, Rs 21 lakh seized

Bengaluru, Oct 17: Bengaluru Police on Saturday raided four locations where betting on the ongoing IPL matches was being held and seized a total of Rs 21 lakhs in the operation.

"A sum of Rs 10,05,000 and 12 mobiles were seized from two accused during a raid in KR Puram where betting on IPL matches was going on," City Crime Branch (CCB), Bengaluru Police informed.

"A total of Rs 21 lakhs was seized during raids conducted at four different places where betting was underway," it added.

Chennai, Oct 22: A DHL Express truck carrying Rs 15 crore mobile phones was hijacked and looted by 10 men near Krishnagiri in the early hours on Wednesday. The truck was heading to Mumbai from Chennai.

The robbers looted the truck after tying up the driver and the cleaner. The robbers, who were all heard speaking in Hindi, later abandoned the truck after taking all the booty.

The truck was carrying 14,000 phones from a Redmi unit at Poonamallee in Tamil Nadu capital Chennai, said a report in Times of India. 

The driver identified as 29-year-old K Sathish Kumar left Poonamallee at around 3 pm on Tuesday. Sathish and the cleaner N Arun halted for dinner at Vellore around 8 pm and again resumed the journey at 10.30 pm.

When the truck neared Melumalai on the Chennai-Bengaluru national highway at around 2 am on Wednesday, it was blocked by another truck and six men got out of it to overpower the driver and the cleaner.

"The robbers attacked Sathish and Arun before blindfolding them and tying their hands and feet. They then fled with the truck carrying phones," said C Murali, DSP, Hosur.

After some time, the robbers stopped the truck on a roadside. In the meantime, they were also joined by four other men from the second truck. They tied-up driver and the cleaner and were later dumped in nearby bushes some distance from the road.

The two trucks then moved towards Azagupavi where the robbed truck was found abandoned.

According to police, all 10 men did not cover their faces as they appear to be from other states. Police officials said they have formed 17 teams to trace the suspects. Though the robbers left no clue,  cops are scanning the CCTV footage of the areas to identify the truck and the accused.

Hyderabad, Oct 12: A 50-year-old man, who worked as a watchman at an under-construction building in Madhapur of Hyderabad, died after being run over by a speeding Ferrari car on Sunday.

The driver of the car, identified as Naveen Kumar has been arrested and Madhapur Police has registered a case against him.

The deceased has been identified as Yesu Babu.

Police said that on Sunday evening the luxury sports car driven by Kumar proceeding towards Jubilee Hills from Madhapur ran over Babu. The victim died on the spot, and police after reaching the spot recovered the car and shifted the body to a government hospital for postmortem.

Badaun, Oct 12: A local BJP leader was arrested in Uttar Pradesh’s Badaun after a woman filed a complaint alleging that he tried to sexually assault her, police said on Monday.

Following the woman's complaint, a case was registered against Sahaswan BJP booth president Vipin Mali under Section 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and he was arrested on Sunday night, they said.

Mali was produced before a court on Monday and sent to jail, the police said.

According to the complaint lodged by the woman three days ago, Mali tried to outrage her modesty. He fled after she raised an alarm, they said.

He was absconding after the incident but was nabbed on Sunday night, they added.

A case under Section 354 of the IPC was lodged against Mali after investigation, said SHO, Sahaswan, Rajeev Sharma.

Meanwhile, Budaun BJP president Ashok Bhartiya claimed Mali has been "framed".

Mali had gone to Shahvazpur area to get garlands made when he was trapped by some people as part of a conspiracy, he said.

Bhartiya said he has full faith in the judiciary.

Mali has made headlines in the past for his controversial remarks on social media.
