Mangaluru, Oct 27: Accusing the local theatre owners of sidelining the Tulu language cinemas, noted director and actor Devadas Kapikad on Friday claimed that city based Prabhath Theatre reduced the number of shows of his comedy movie ‘Are Marler’ giving priority to other language films.

Addressing a press conference here, the veteran artiste said that theatre had breached the promise. He disclosed that as per the initial contract, the theatre had to screen six shows a day which was now cut down to two. The deposit was then reimbursed, he said.
He said, the reason being given was the renovation of the studio. Nonetheless, Telugu movies were still being screened uninterruptedly. He said that he wouldn’t have been hurt if it was a Kannada or any other local language cinema.
He said that Prakash Narayan, owner of the theatre, who is currently residing in Bengaluru, did not heed to his request of continuing the six shows at least while it was garnering collection.
Mr Kapikad lamented that when he tried to convince Mr Narayan the need to give priority to Tulu movies, the latter retorted saying, “Don’t talk about your language; talk about cinema.”
