Mangaluru, Mar 24: Former JD(S) leader Zameer Ahmed Khan, who resigned as MLA to formally join Congress party has accused former prime minister H D Deve Gowda and former chief minister H D Kumaraswamy of fooling businessman B M Farookh.
Farookh, who is chief general secretary of the JD(S) was filed by the party as its Rajya Sabha candidate twice in two years. In 2016 he was defeated as the rebel MLAs of the party had cross voted. In 2018 he secured only two votes as 28 MLAs of the party boycotted the poll.
Mr Khan told media persons on Saturday that the JD(S) supremo made B M Farookh a scapegoat, twice, by fielding him in the Rajya Sabha elections, despite knowing the outcome of the polls beforehand. “Farookh is being used as mere a sacrificial lamb by Gowda,” he lamented.
Earlier, Mr Khan had claimed that it was H D Kumaraswamy who had asked the seven JD(S) MLAs to cross vote against B M Farookh.
Invites Prajwal Revenna
Mr Khan, who will be joining Congress in the presence of Rahul Gandhi, also extended an invitation to H D Kumaraswamy's nephew Prajwal Revanna to join the national party.
He said that though Prajwal was an "asset" to JD(S), he had been sidelined by his own uncle, who was "threatened" by his political growth.
"Prajwal is welcome to join the Congress. I will myself speak to the Congress and get the matter (induction) cleared. I have always thought of him as a good worker - that he is a big asset to the JD(S). Though he has a bright future in the party, his own uncle Kumaraswamy is curbing his political prospects," he said.
