Udupi, Jul 30: Former chief minister and Janata Dal (Secular) state chief H D Kumaraswamy has condemned the media trial in the unnatural death of Kavya Poojary, a Class 10 student of Alva’s High School in Moodbidri.

15-yr-old Kavya, who was also a state level badminton player, was found hanging from ceiling fan in the hostel room on July 20. The police have registered a case of unnatural death.
Speaking to media persons in Udupi, the Kumaraswamy said that media pronouncing verdict on the incident is not a good development. “It is not correct on the part of the media to target the education institution based on the incident,” he said.
He said that the death was being discussed in the media, especially on television channels, which is targeting the education institution by projecting it as the accused. It is not easy to build an institution. Media should not try to tarnish the image of an institution in which thousands of students studied. All politics on the incident should be stopped.
The government should intervene in the matter to ensure that the truth came out through proper investigation. Thus, it should put an end to all rumours, he said.
Meanwhile, district in-charge Minister B. Ramanath Rai and Ivan D’Souza, MLC, visited the family of the deceased in their house in Kateel on Sunday. Some leaders of the Sangh Parivar had visited her house there on Saturday.
