Udupi, Jul 19: A fisherman met watery grave, another one went missing and third one was injured when the traditional boat in which they had gone out for fishing capsized in the sea off the Malpe coast here on Saturday.
The Malpe police said nine fishermen had gone for fishing in a small boat from Padukere village around 8 a.m. But after the boat had gone some distance from the coast, it was hit by a strong wave and it overturned.

Two of the eight fishermen, who were injured, swam back to the coast, while another was missing.
Ravindra Kotian (27) was rushed to the district government hospital here, where doctors pronounced him dead. Another fisherman Vijith is receiving treatment at Adrasha Hospital. The third fisherman Shivananda (33) is missing. Search operations had been taken up to trace him. Kotian was a resident of Baputhota.
Abhayachandra Jain, Minister for Fisheries, Sports and Youth Empowerment, visited the house of Kotian at Baputhota, consoled his family members and promised them that he would try to get maximum compensation from the government.
Pramod Madhwaraj, MLA; P. Yuvaraj, president of the Udupi City Municipal Council; and Keshav Kundar, president of Dakshina Kannada Mogaveera Mahajana Sangha, were present.
