Chikkamagaluru, Aug 22: The Chikkamagaluru district administration has banned movement of heavy vehicles on Charmadi Ghat following landslides.
Deputy Commissioner M.K. Sreerangaiah has issued the order banning movement of long chassis vehicles, heavy commercial vehicles, multi-axle trucks and all heavily loaded trucks on the road till further orders.
Following the closure of Shiradi Ghat for vehicles, the number of vehicles moving on Charmadi Ghat has increased, causing traffic jams. The high traffic also caused a few landslides in the stretch, forcing the district administration to ban heavy vehicles.
Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner Sasikanth Senthil S had imposed ban on the movement of heavy vehicles on the Charmadi Ghat five days ago. However, buses, cars, jeeps, vans, two-wheelers, mini-vans can ply.
Meanwhile, fresh landslides were reported in NR Pura taluk in Chikkamagaluru district.
A landslide at Mysuru Plantations at Bhoothanakadu in Karkeshwara Gram Panchayat has created a 40-foot deep trench.
A landslide has hit Kerehaklu estate belonging to Gopal Gowda. Tahsildar T Gopinath, who visited the spot, has asked the labourers not to work near the trenches.
