Bangalore, Jul 5: BJP MLC Ganesh Karnik has been named Chief Whip of the party in the Legislative Council.

Capt. Karnik, who hails from Kervashi village in Karkala Taluk of Udupi District is a retired Captain of the Indian Army and served as a commissioned officer along North, East and Western Borders of India and voluntarily retired from the service.
He has served NITTE education trust in various positions. He has also been a champion of dignity in public life, primarily due to his wealth of experience from Indian military and many educational institutions.
Capt. Karnik entered the field of politics as a member of the Karnataka Legislative Council in 2006 representing the South-west Teachers' Constituency (which includes Shimoga district, Channagiri and Honnalli taluks of Davanagere district, Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Chikmagalur and Kodagu districts of Karnataka).
He has ably represented the teachers in the Council taking their woes, demands and opinion to the government level. He played a predominant role in realizing a number of demands of teachers in the past six years.
In June 2012, Capt. Karnik has been elected as a member of the Karnataka Legislative Council representing the Bangalore South-East Teachers' Constituency.
