Belthangady, Jun 26: Two youngsters including a sand dealer were attacked and stabbed last night at Baramelu near Guruvayanakere, under the jurisdiction of Belthangady police station.
The victims, Mohammed Irfan(28) and Nisar(25), are residents of Pallipaadi of Koltamajalu village in Bantwal taluk. Both were admitted to a private hospital in Mangaluru. They are said to be out of danger.
Irfan is supposed to get married in July. He had gone along with his cousin Nisar in his rickshaw to give wedding cards to the bride’s family near Guruvayanakere. While returning, they were attacked by the gang with machete.
It is learnt that Irfan got a call asking for sand when they were at the bride’s house. The caller and Irfan met on the way back. Police sources said that the attack was due to personal rivalry.
Daskhina Kannada SP Sudheer Kumar Reddy said that victims are recovering in a hospital. “Irfan gave a statement saying that three unknown Muslims, two of them around 25 years of age and one with a beard about 35 years of age made numerous calls and guided them to a scheduled place and attacked them,” the SP said.
