Speaking at the plenary session of the Private Hospitals and Nursing Homes Association (PHANA) in the City on Sunday, he said successive governments in all the states had failed to ensure quality medical care and education to citizens.
“Had the government hospitals done a good job in treating patients, the need to set up private hospitals would not have arisen,” he said.
Asked about the issue of private hospitals fleecing patients, he said, “There is competition between the government and private sector. If the government does not have the necessary facilities, people are bound to go to private hospitals. How can they decide on the prices? If need be, they can bring in regulations for the minimum qualification needed.”
‘Lobbying must’
PHANA announced on the occasion that it would have its presence in every district.
“A strong lobbying is needed from the medical fraternity to put forward our thoughts and challenges to the government, so that before bringing about new regulations, the views of everyone are considered. In an attempt to ensure this, PHANA will now be pan-Karnataka, instead of a presence just in Bengaluru,” said Dr Nagendra Swamy S?C, president, PHANA.
