Govt. mulls bridge between Mangalore Airport and KPT; Rs 40 crore sanctioned for Nanthoor flyover

Mangalore, Dec 30: Union Minister for Transport, Road and Highways Oscar Fernandes announced the proposal to construct a bridge on the KPT-Airport stretch which would reduce the travelling time to the airport.

Speaking at a press conference in the city on Monday, he said that the feasibility of the proposal will be determined after studying the area and an action plan will be made accordingly.

A sum of Rs 22 crore has been sanctioned for the construction of a service road from B C Road to Suratkal. Plans are also on the anvil to restore and upgrade the Agumbe Ghat stretch as well as Manipal-Karkala-Moodbidri highway, he said.

The Central government is also mulling over introducing electronic toll collection system at toll gates and booths in the country. Electronic toll booths have been launched in Tumkur and Davangere districts on a trial basis, he said.

Mr Fernandes said that a sum of Rs 40 crore had been sanctioned for the construction of an underpass and over-bridge at Nanthoor junction in the city, for better connectivity and smooth movement of traffic.
