Jeddah, Jan 9: The Presidency of Meteorology and Environment (PME) announced on Wednesday that there would be medium to heavy rainfall, thunderstorms and winds over Al-Jouf, the Northern Border Province and parts of Tabuk starting from Thursday.

The PME did not rule out snowfalls in Turaif, Al-Qurayyat, Arar and the Tabuk highlands. It said there would be medium rainfall and thunderstorms from Thursday evening until Friday over parts of Makkah, Jeddah, Taif, Al-Qunfuda, Al-Laith, Al-Baha, Asir and Jazan.

There would be light to medium rain over Riyadh, Qasim, Hail and the Eastern Province, followed by a marked drop in temperatures.

Abdullah Al-Musnad, an astronomer at Qassim University, said Riyadh would see more rain on Friday. On his Twitter page, he forecast unstable weather over the western and northern provinces, and possibly the western parts of the Central Province.

He said that the effects would become greater on Friday and cover the entire Kingdom before receding on Monday.

Al-Musnad said there was a possibility of floods arising from these conditions, and that the rainfall would create further moisture in the air.

“In the next few days, temperatures will start to rise, and there will be unstable weather and low waves over the Mediterranean. Most of the rain will fall on Friday,” he said.
