Mumbai, Jun 14: Katrina Kaif was bombarded with questions about replacing Priyanka Chopra in "Bharat" but now that the film is a box office success, the actor says it is a great validation for her work.

Katrina said she has always believed in doing her own thing rather than constantly looking over her shoulders to check what her contemporaries were working on.

"So, taking that into consideration, yes, it's a great validation and feedback. But I've always tried to maintain a philosophy in my life, which is, I'm not really looking over my shoulder to see what another person is doing," Katrina said in a group interview.

"I just have to be able to answer the question to myself every day on set: 'have you done everything that you could've done to prepare you for what happens today?' If the answer is yes, I feel content," Katrina added.

The actor's casting in the film was overshadowed by the controversy over the sudden exit of Priyanka.

With "Bharat" and "Zero", Katrina has been receiving a lot of love from fans as well as the critics and the actor is mildly surprised by the praise.

"Our memory is short-lived, especially in the film industry because there's so much constantly happening. Right from the start of my career, I have tried to strike a balance. 'Namastey London' was my third film which had a female-driven part, the girl was strong and feisty.

"Then I did 'New York'. I've always tried to experiment with the best of what is offered to me. I try to take up what I perceive would be a challenge that suits me, that has the right synergy. I took the same approach with 'Zero' and 'Bharat.'"

The actor said barring a slow period, her performance in her earlier films were also praised by the critics.

"I started to think about why do people have this perception that positive reviews have only started to come now. I've come to a reasonable understanding, that while I got good reviews for my films, there were a few films in the middle, about three years ago, that didn't do well.

"We remember just that phase because it's more recent. That's what it's like in the film industry, you really have to continuously deliver."

The actor said she treats success and slump as something that is not permanent.

"When you have a low phase—which will come for everyone—when you have the misses, that stick for a while. Then when something starts working, that sticks for a while too! You have the best of both worlds.

"When you're in that phase, you've to have tough skin, have to introspect, see what can be bettered, what's going amiss. When you're having a great phase you have to think what I've done here without getting too attached to the result. Praise makes you feel good, criticism pinches."

Directed by Ali Abbas Zafar, "Bharat" featured Salman Khan in the titular role and released last week.

Mumbai, Jan 3: Actor-politician Urmila Matondkar on Sunday said she has bought a new office with her "hard-earned money" after Kangana Ranaut took a dig at the purchase, linking it with her joining Shiv Sena.

Matondkar, who had contested the 2019 Lok Sabha election from North Mumbai constituency as a Congress candidate, joined the political party, led by Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, on December 1.

Ranaut took to Twitter and shared a screenshot of a report which claimed Matondkar bought the office for over Rs 3 crore, "weeks after joining Shiv Sena".

The "Queen" star claimed that Congress, Shiv Sena's ally in the state's coalition government, is trying to demolish her house and took a potshot at Matondkar for being "smart" enough to maintain good relations with her former political party.

"Dear @UrmilaMatondkar ji, the houses that I built from my hard-earned money are being demolished by Congress. By impressing BJP, I have only gotten 25-30 legal cases against me.

"I wish I was as smart as you and would've kept Congress happy. How foolish of me, no?" the 33-year-old actor tweeted.

Tagging Ranaut, Matondkar shared a video on Twitter and asked her to fix up a meeting where she would be present with all documents as fair proof.

"It has proof how I bought the flat in 2011 with my own hard-earned money after working for nearly 25-30 years. The document has papers of the sale of the flat in the first of week of March.

"It also has papers of how I bought the office with that money, which I had earned through my hard work. The flat that I had bought was way before I entered politics," she said in the video.

Matondkar, 46, also took a dig at the Y-plus category security given to Ranaut "against the money of crores of tax-paying citizens".

In September 2020, Ranaut was given Y-plus category security by the Ministry of Home Affairs amid controversy over her comment that she feared Mumbai Police.

Matondkar also asked the actor to present a list of people from the industry, who she had claimed were involved in drugs.

"You had promised them (the government) that you have names of several people you wish to give to the Narcotics Control Bureau to fight the drug menace. I request you to please bring that list. I'll be waiting for your answer," she added.

In September, Ranaut had called Matondkar a "soft porn star", after the latter criticised her claims about nepotism in the industry and Bollywood being riddled with a drug problem.

New Delhi, Jan 17: A literary figure par excellence who touched many hearts through his soul-stirring writings, veteran poet, lyricist and screenwriter Javed Akhtar turned 76 on Sunday

The Padma Shri, Padma Bhushan and National Award-winning poet has immortalised his name in the world of Indian poetry and literature through the work that he has done in a career spanning four decades.

Akhtar started his career through screenwriting and then shifted to penning lyrics for some of the most loved Bollywood songs revolving around love, loss and life.

On the 76th birthday of the celebrated literary figure, here are few of the songs penned by Akhtar that are always etched in the hearts of art lovers.

1. Yeh Jo Des Hai Tera (Swades)

The song that never fails to raise goosebumps, 'Yeh Jo Des Hai tera' from Shah Rukh Khan's much-loved 'Swades,' instills the sense of belongingness in every Indian's heart. Sung by legendary singer AR Rahman, lyrics of the song take the countrymen on an emotional roller-coaster ride as it talks about how one's connection to their roots is so strong that it cannot be broken.

2. Ek ladki ko dekha to (1942 A Love Story)

The popular love song from early 90's 'Ek Ladki Ko Dekha To' has been loved so much that a film was made on the title and the song was reprised as the title song of the film. Sung by Kumar Sanu in his magically alluring voice, the song is still the symbol of love even after 27 years of its release. While the original song featured Anil Kapoor and Manisha Koirala, its reprised version had Kapoor's daughter Sonam Kapoor in the lead.

3. Ghar kab aaoge (Border)

The hard-hitting song narrates the pain of separation that the families of soldiers and the soldiers themselves experience as they are deployed on the border away from home. Even two decades after the release of the song, every Independence and Republic Day celebration in the country is inclomplete without this song from war-drama 'Border.' The song has been co-written by Anu Malik.

4. Mehndi Hai Rachnewali (Zubeidaa)

The ultimate wedding song is often played during the 'Mehendi' night functions in movies, TV shows and in real life. This song from 'Zubeidaa' talks about the light of hopefullness that enters the life of the new bride who is set to begin a new stage of her life as she is about to tie the knot with the groom. The soothing voice of Alka Yagnik adds the perfect wedding vibes to this song.

5. Radha Kaise Na Jale (Lagaan)

The devotional song that depicts the bitter-sweet relationship between gods Radha-Krishna has been the perfect 'Janmashtmi' celebration song for years. Based on the playful lyrics of 'Radha Kaise Na Jale' is also the song that every woman dedicates to her beloved when it comes to the feeling of possessiveness in romantic relationships.

6. Dil Chahta Hai (Dil Chahta Hai)

The title track of Aamir Khan's 'Dil Chahta Hai' was, is and will continue to remain the friendship anthem for generations. Sung by Shankar Mahadevan, 'Dil Chahta Hai' is the song that every group of friends never misses to jam to, when on a trip to Goa. It celebrates the spirit of friendship and depicts the feeling of freezing the moments one spends chilling with their friends.

There are many more gems penned down by Akhtar that have been used in Bollywood for years.

Many of his poetries like 'Ye Kaisa Raaz Hai,' 'Toh Zinda Ho Tum,' and 'Dil Aakhir Tu Kyu Rota Hai' have been used directly in his daughter's directorial 'Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara' which stars his actor son Farhan Akhtar in the lead.

After collecting loads of accolades, Akhtar earlier last year was bestowed with the prestigious Richard Dawkins Award. He made history by becoming the first Indian to be honoured with the award.
