Mina, Sep 25: A few Indians are also among the hundreds of Hajj pilgrims who have died in a stampede at Mina outside the holy city of Makkah on Thursday. Several Indians are among those injured.
The stampede victim includes one of the volunteers of Indian Fraternity Forum.
Niyaz-ul-Haqq, hailing from north Indian state of Jharkand, was part of Hajj volunteers deployed by IFF for the service of pilgrims. A civil engineer by profession Haqq was working for Hanwah Contracting Company.
“He was with IFF for three years and he was engaged in Hajj volunteer service during Thursday’s tragedy,” said IFF Karnataka chapter western Region President Abdul Majeed.
Two women from Hyderabad were among those killed in the stampede. While a victim, Shaik Bibijaan, 60, is from L. B. Nagar, another woman, Sabhath Tasleem, 52, is from Chandrayangutta.
A pall of gloom descended at the house of Shaik Bibijaan. Bibijaan along with three of her relatives left for the pilgrimage on September 2.
Sabhath, left for the pilgrimage along with her husband, Mohd Ghouse, through a private tour operator on September 15. Their son, Mohd Irshad, who works as an engineer in Saudi Arabia, joined them during the pilgrimage. The family received a phone call from Mr. Ghouse in the evening informing about the death.
“A man from Kerala who died in the stampede has been identified as Mohammed from Kodungaloor in Thrissur district,” Kerala’s Rural Development and Non Resident Keralite Affairs Minister K C Joseph said in Thiruvananthapuram.
