Six killed in four road accidents in UAE

Ras Al Khaimah/Dubai, Jan 13: At least six people, including two women, were killed and six injured in traffic accidents in Dubai, Sharjah and Ras Al Khaimah during the last two days.

Two women were killed and three others sustained injuries in a horrific road accident in Ras Al Khaimah. According to the police the dead comprised a mother and daughter and the injured included three sisters.

Colonel Abdullah Al Munkis, Director of Traffic and Patrols Directorate General of Central Operations at RAK Police, said that the accident happened on Friday at 8pm when an Arab woman, 42, identified as S.D.A., was driving on Al Jazeera Al Hamra Road in Ras Al Khaimah. She was accompanied by her 14-year-old daughter, identified as S.H, and also her friends including three sisters Z.M.S,18, N.M.S,20, and F.M.S,26.

At the time of the accident, the woman’s daughter was sitting in the front seat next to her mother while the three sisters were sitting in the back.

They were heading for a picnic when the car suddenly swerved onto the side of the road. The Arab woman and her daughter were killed on the spot and the three sisters were taken to hospital.

Also, a 19-year-old Emirati man died on the spot on Friday evening in a traffic accident in the Awafi area of Ras Al Khaimah and two others sustained serious injuries.

In Dubai, two men were killed and three were critically injured in a road accident at 8am on Saturday on Al Khail Road.

According to police, two Indian residents lost their lives in the accident while the injured are fighting for their lives in hospital. They were travelling in a saloon car which skidded off the road and crashed into a lamp post on the side of the road.

Initial reports revealed that the 40-year-old driver lost control of the vehicle due to speeding and slippery road conditions.

In Sharjah a truck driver died when his truck crashed into University Bridge. The accident happened on the Sharjah-Maleiha road.
