Announcing this at a press meet here on Wednesday, president of the Forum Dharmendra K said that people in the district faced several problems in receiving subsidised LPG cylinders on time. Even after registering, it takes 20-30 days for the cylinder to reach the consumer. Some consumers do not get bills after payment, while others have to shell out extra for each cylinder. The cost of a subsidised cylinder being Rs 417, few consumers in the outskirts of the district have been known to have billed Rs 480. People also face problems while registering for ration cards in places like Adyar, Kannur, Ullal and Bajal. Attempts will be made to address the problems of consumers and find appropriate solutions for these problems in the meeting. The ultimate goal is raising the cap on subsidised cylinders to 12 per year for each household on the lines of provisions in Goa and Delhi, he said.
Deputy Director of Dakshina Kannada District Food and Civil Supplies Department Sharanabasappa, advocate Shashiraj Rao Kavoor and president of Dakshina Kannada Working Journalists Association P B Harish Rai will be the chief guests at the meeting.
In the coming months, meetings will also be organised in Shimoga, Udupi and Hassan districts, he said, adding that they would also urge for provision of 12 cylinders altogether at subsidised rates.
General secretary of the Forum Siddeeq Jakribettu and members Rekha Baliga, Ajay Kumar and Mohammed Mohsin were present.
