The fair was inaugurated by Deputy Commissioner, Dakshina Kannada, N Prakash on Wednesday morning. It will be open till august 4 between 10 a.m. and 8 p.m.
Market Promotion Officer, T Ayyappan briefing about exhibition said that the exhibition has 25 stalls and exhibitors from Karnataka, Kerala, Thamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and West Bengal are showcasing and selling different kinds of jute products.
“Only environment friendly products are available here. There is good response in Mangalore and a large crowd is expected in coming days”, he said.
Speaking about availability of Jute he said, 'jute is dependent on seasons. There is increasing demand as people like to avoid pollution and plastic. Even jute is used in producing house hold', he added.
Karthik of West Bengal showcasing jute jewellery at his stall said: “I have jute jewellery starting from Rs 10 up to Rs 350. Pure jute jewellery is high in demand especially with foreigners. Here I have jewellery meeting every teenagers need to elderly”, he said.
“There is huge demand for jute file holders in corporate companies. Even for house we have wall hanging and decorative items made of Jute” says Asuthosh Sarkar, another seller.
Divya Machaiah, home maker from Madikeri, after shopping at Jute fair sharing her experience with coastaldigest.com said that she bought a good collection of jute jewellery and house decorative items.
“In a lower price I purchased many things for house wall, swing and ethnic products. Apart from it under one roof purses, envelops, conference materials, bags, footwear and gift items are available”, she said.
