Domestic passengers exceeded international passenger numbers. As per Airports Authority of India (AAI) data, the number of domestic passengers were 8, 41,258 and international passengers were 4, 13,842.
This was also the trend in 2012-13 when the international passengers using MIA stood at 2, 67,948 as against 7, 64,653 domestic travellers.
The passengers handled also marks an all time high for Mangalore airport.
Domestically, this coastal city is connected to Bangalore, and Mumbai directly and Chennai and Hyderabad with stopovers at Bangalore.
The gross revenue of the airport increased by 26 per cent to Rs. 63.89 crore in the last financial year, he said.
Flights to Dubai, Dammam contributed 54% growth
Airport Director J T Radhakrishna said the Jet Airways starting a daily flight to Dubai and Air India Express operating a flight to Dammam two days a week in the last financial year contributed for 54 per cent growth in international traffic.
Mr Radhakrishna said Air India Express withdrawing its Kochi-Mangalore-Kuwait flight, operating two days a week, recently would not affect the growth in international traffic much in the current financial year. It was because it had reserved only 60 seats to Mangalore and 100 seats had been reserved for Kochi.
The airport sees an average of 17-18 movements of aircraft per day, including five international movements per day, he said.
