Uddhav Thackeray shamelessly defends Shiv Sena leaders over force-feeding row

July 24, 2014

Mumbai, Jul 24: Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray on Thursday shamelessly backed his MPs after a video footage of paty MP Rajan Vichare forcing a fasting Muslim worker to eat at Maharashtra Sadan in Delhi triggered outrage in Parliament and social media on Wednesday.

"The Opposition is making it political to target Sena", said Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray.

"MPs were telling him to eat food he serves. Religion was not written on the face of the caterer", Thackeray added.

Saying that the MPs revolted against mismanagement at Maharashtra Sadan, Shiv Sena, in its publication 'Saamna', said the incident was blown out of proportion and given communal colour. The mouthpiece also said that insult of 'Marathi manus' will not be tolerated.

Launching a scathing attack on Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan, who promised a probe in the incident, Shiv Sena said food must be force-fed to Chavan.

The editorial says, "Even after spending a huge amount, there is no 'Maharashtra'' and 'Marathiness' in the Maharashtra Sadan at Delhi. Marathi people cannot walk in with pride. It is the history that Maharashtrians are always insulted in Delhi. If we are going to get insulting treatment even after spending so much amount, then anyone would get fury and so did we."

A day ago, Shiv Sena MPs who were involved in the act had denied allegations of forcing a Muslim catering supervisor to break his fast, but video footage grabbed by Zee Media emerged clearly showed Rajan Vichare, Sena MP from Thane, forcing the Muslim supervisor to eat a chapati.

The act had taken place when the 11 members of Parliament from Maharashtra – Sanjay Raut (Rajya Sabha), Anandrao Adsul (Amravati), Rajan Vichare (Thane), Arvind Sawant (Mumbai-South), Hemant Godse (Nashik), Krupal Tumane (Ramtek), Ravindra Gaikwad (Osmanabad), Vinayak Raut (Ratnagiri-Sindhudurg), Shivaji Adhalrao Patil (Shirur), Rahul Shewale (Mumbai-South Central) and Shrikant Shinde (Kalyan) – had visited Maharashtra Sadan.

The Sena further questions, "Why there is so much noise over the issue, and was the caste or religion of that supervisor written on his forehead?"

Criticising the media and politicians for creating uproar over the issue, the editorial says, "The media who were heating up the issue and the parliamentarians who were raising voices can see our act, but they don't see that the rape of a 10-year-old girl by the'maulavi' of a mosque in Afghanistan, that too in the auspicious month of Ramzan. Neither the media is speaking about this issue, nor it is being raised in the parliament. Recently, a Muslim teacher in Bangalore raped a small girl in the school even after having roza, but media is not speaking about this. This simply shows that the rape is okay, but not the chapati feeding."

"If the migrants at Maharashtra Sadan are going to consider Marathi people inferior, then the Shiv Sena will not tolerate it. The voice raised by the Shiv Sena MPs at Maharashtra Sadan is not hooliganism but an agitation against the inferior quality of service that is being provided there, even after complaining against the issues," said the editorial.

The editorial further added, "In reality, the chapati should have been force-fed to the state chief minister, PWD minister, chief secretary and Commissioner Bipin Mallick."

Attacking Congress, the editorial added, "The politicians who are giving the religions angle to suppress the corruption are digging a hole for themselves by their own hands. Tomorrow, the people of Maharashtra will bury the Congress in the same hole."

"Shiv Sena respect all religions. 'Faith' is an individual's Alma matter, but if someone is taking efforts to politicise the issue to malign Shiv Sena, then you are on the brink." The one who are politicising the issue should not forget that Shiv Sena is the prosperity of tomorrow's Maharashtra." editorial said.

The party also said that a huge amount was money was spent in building the Maharashtra Sadan, but there was nothing 'Marathi' in it. However, the NDA government on Thursday said the allegations were unsubstantiated.

A group of Shiv Sena MPs on Wednesday said a news report of them allegedly forcing a caterer at Maharashtra Sadan in Delhi to eat roti during Ramzan fast was being given "a communal colour".

They said they did not know about the IRCTC catering supervisor's religion when the said incident happened

The incident, which took place last week, was reported in The Indian Express on Wednesday.

The Shiv Sena MPs were reportedly angry at not being served Maharashtrian food.

As a result of the incident, IRCTC, which provides catering to Maharashtra Sadan, have suspended its service.

It also complained to the Maharashtra Resident Commissioner for hurting religious sentiments of the staffer, identified as Arshad Zubair S., said the report.

Bengaluru, Apr 25: Former union minister C M Ibrahim, who was expelled from Janata Dal (Secular) for protesting against party’s alliance with BJP, has stressed on need for a third front not just at the national level, but also in Karnataka.

Addressing a news conference in Bengaluru on Wednesday, he said he’s planning to form a third front in Karnataka along with Lingayat Seer Dingaleshwar Swami.

Ibrahim said that he will tour the state between April 27 and May 4 and that he would meet Dingaleshwar Swami on April 29. “There is a need for the third front in this country. We will try to establish a third front in association with the seer and we hope we will be successful in those efforts,” he said.

Expressing disappointment with the Congress for not doing enough to gain the full confidence of Muslims, Ibrahim said that Congress is concentrating only on certain communities for votes, and ignoring Muslims.

“The Congress is not even caring for Muslims and Dalit votes. In some Muslim areas they did not even hold campaigns seeking votes and trying to convince the communities which never vote in their favour. I fear this may lead to low turnout and Congress may lose its vote base,” he opined.

Mentioning about guarantees on which Congress is strongly relying during this election, Ibrahim said, such things won’t work all the time. “Guarantees will not work anymore. Every election you need to give something new to the voters,” he added.

On Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s statement that Congress is trying to appease minorities for votes, Ibrahim requested both Congress and BJP parties not bring Muslims between them. “I request both parties. Leave us alone. Don’t make us sandwiches for your political sake. We are living with peace and hope even the Prime Minister will understand this,” Ibrahim added.

Launching a broadside against Prime Minister Deve Gowda, Ibrahim said, “Deve Gowda has sold his personality itself. Whatever I have told about JD(S) has come true. I pity, a former Prime Minister should not have come to this stage,” he said.

Karwar, May 5: What commenced as a mere exchange of words between spouses swiftly transmuted into a calamitous ordeal, resulting in the heartbreaking loss of their innocent offspring. The heart-wrenching incident unfolded in the serene confines of Halamaddy village in the picturesque expanse of Dandeli, nestled within the idyllic expanse of Uttara Kannada district.

In the throes of a fervent dispute with her spouse, the aggrieved wife, succumbing to an overwhelming surge of emotions, callously propelled their tender six-year-old progeny into the somber depths of a nearby canal, thereafter alerting the local populace to her grievous act.

Promptly apprised of the distressing occurrence by concerned bystanders, the authorities were swiftly summoned to the scene to confront the harrowing aftermath.

Responding to the distress call, the diligent officers of Dandeli rural police swiftly converged upon the site where the innocent child had been cast into the unforgiving waters of the canal, subsequently effecting the retrieval of the child's lifeless form.

Regrettably, it was discerned that a portion of the child's remains had been tragically claimed by the lurking jaws of a predatory crocodile.

Guwahati: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday condemned the alleged sexual abuse of women involving Lok Sabha MP Prajwal Revanna, asserting that the BJP will not tolerate any insult to women.

Revanna (33) is the BJP-JD(S) alliance candidate for Hassan Lok Sabha constituency, which went to polls on April 26.

Earlier in the day, the JD(S) suspended Revanna from the party with immediate effect.

“The issue regarding Revanna that has been reported in the media is very hurtful and cannot be tolerated in any way,” Shah told a press conference here.

“The BJP’s stand is very clear; we will not tolerate any insult to ‘matri aur nari shakti’ (women empowerment),” he asserted.

Some explicit video clips allegedly involving Prajwal Revanna, the grandson of former prime minister H D Deve Gowda, were circulated in Hassan over the last few days.

The home minister said Congress has been alleging that an NDA partner’s candidate is involved in the incident, “but I just want to ask a small question - whose government is there in that state (Karnataka)?”

“The Congress is in power in Karnataka, and this matter must have come to their attention. Why has it not taken any action on it so far? We cannot take any action as law and order is a state issue,” Shah said.
