Mustaq

Mangalore, Jul 28: A court in Bihar granted unconditional bail on July 18 to Muhammad Asif (23) from Amblamogaru and Mustaq Ahmed (45) from Suralpadi who were arrested by the Lakhisarai District Police on November 22, 2013 along with Ayisha-Zubeir couple on the charges of illegal money transfer from Bihar and Mangalore.

The bail order came after the NIA told the court that it does not have enough evidence against the accused.

While Muhammad Asif reached home on Monday, Musthaq, a cancer patient had to wait till Friday since his name was entered incorrectly in written order copy.

Families of the duo were relieved to see their loved ones walk out of prison in Bihar after 9 long months.

Police arrested them just because their names were found on diary seized from Ayisha-Zubair couple.

Smiles and tears greet them at Mangalore airport

A thick mix of anger, excitement and anticipation pervaded as the family members anxiously waited at Mangalore International Airport on Friday. His elder brothers Abdullah, Yakoob Sharief, Sheikh Mukhthar, Abdul Majeed Suralpady and other prominent personalities received him at the airport.

He was accompanied by S M Sharief, M S Abdul Hameed, Samshuddin from Bihar.

“We spent a lot to fight for legal battle. But if poor gets into trouble for no fault of theirs how could they overcome?” wondered Abdul Khader K who had been to Bihar more than 10 times to get them bail.

Muhammad Asif is pursuing BBM course at Kanachur College in Deralakatte.

Cancer Patient

Musthaq is a cancer patient and undergoing treatment from Kidwai Memorial Institute of Oncology, Bangalore.

Lost brother!

Ubaid, brother of Mustaaq had been Bihar to meet Mustaaq because of sheer love, affection and concern.

Ubaid knew the condition in which his brother was living and hence when the Bihar police took Mustaaq, Ubaid could not stay in Mangalore. He immediately took a train to Bihar. However, Mustaaq greatest support had to leave him half way through.

Ubaid suffered a cardiac arrest in the train while he was on his way back home.

Ubaid had taken up the responsibility of Mustaaq's treatment.

Though he had been to Bihar, he could not meet Mustaaq. With the same pain of not being able to see his brother, he boarded the train and supposedly, he had spoken to his nephew for over an hour and wept over his inability to be with his brother during the crisis. Within few minutes of this call, he suffered a cardiac arrest and died in the train.

Ubaid is survived by his four children. He had returned to India just a month ago. Ubaid's death had only added to the pain of a hurt family.

Mushtaaq's wife was expecting their fourth child and the crisis that struck her husband have left her suffering immensely to the extent that she was almost bedridden. On the other hand, their three school going children had opted to remain at home because they had already become matter of mockery and suspicion among their peers.

Initially, couple of media branded them as terrorists and sensationalized the news. The intellectuals called it trial by the media.

Bengaluru: JD(S) leader H D Kumaraswamy on Sunday said he would like to wait for the facts to come out of the investigation into an alleged sex scandal involving his nephew and Hassan MP Prajwal Revanna, but asserted that there is no question of forgiving anyone who has committed a crime as per law.

The former chief minister said he has nothing to do with Prajwal Revanna reportedly leaving the country, and it is the responsibility of the Special Investigation Team (SIT) to get him back if required.

The 33-year-old Prajwal Revanna is the son of former prime minister and JD(S) patriarch H D Deve Gowda's elder son H D Revanna, who is an MLA and former minister.

Some explicit video clips allegedly involving Prajwal Revanna had started making the rounds in Hassan in recent days.

Prajwal Revanna is the BJP-JD(S) alliance's candidate from Hassan, which went to polls on Friday.

Kumaraswamy said, "I have noticed that the chief minister has ordered an SIT probe. Whether it is me or Deve Gowda (his father), we have always conducted ourselves respectfully towards women and have responded positively when anyone came with any sufferings. We have tried to address them."

Speaking to reporters here, he said, "The Hassan related issue that started during elections, let the facts come out through a probe. Whoever it is, who has committed the mistake as per the law of the land...there is no question of forgiving anyone who has committed the mistake. So let the facts come out from the probe, after that I will react."

To a question on Prajwal Revanna going to a foreign country, Kumaraswamy said, "It is not related to me. SIT probe has been ordered, officials have been put to work. If he has gone to a foreign country, getting him back is their responsibility. What should I say, if I'm asked. They (SIT) will get him, don't worry."

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah announced the decision to constitute a SIT to probe the alleged sex scandal involving the MP.

Meanwhile, the police have information that Prajwal has left the country, according to a statement issued by the Chief Minister’s office.

"Prajwal Revanna’s explicit video clips are being circulated in Hassan and it appears prime facie that women were sexually assaulted,' the statement said, adding that the government decided to form an SIT based on a petition by the chief of the Karnataka State Commission for Women.

The Commission's chairperson Dr Nagalakshmi Chaudhary on Thursday wrote to Siddaramaiah and state police chief Alok Mohan, seeking a probe into the videos that are in circulation in Hassan.

Prajwal has through his election agent lodged a complaint with the authorities that the videos are "doctored" and being circulated to tarnish his image ahead of elections.

New Delhi: The Aam Aadmi Party on Saturday alleged that Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal is being pushed towards a “slow death” inside Tihar jail by denying him insulin and consultations with his doctor.

Kejriwal, who has Type-2 diabetes, has been asking for insulin and a video conferencing with his family doctor but his requests are being denied by the jail administration, party spokesperson Saurabh Bharadwaj said in a press conference.

"I want to say with full responsibility that a conspiracy is underway for the slow death of Kejriwal," Bharadwaj claimed citing blood sugar readings of the Chief Minister in jail.

He also slammed the Tihar administration, BJP, Centre and Delhi LG for allegedly denying insulin to Kejriwal and said the Delhi Chief Minister had been suffering from diabetes for the last 20-22 years.

On Friday, the chief minister council Senior advocate Abhishek Singhvi said Kejriwal has not been administered insulin to control his sugar levels since his arrest, terming it “shocking” and “alarming”.

The ED had on Thursday claimed before the court that Kejriwal was eating food high in sugar like mangoes and sweets every day, despite having Type-2 diabetes, to create grounds for medical bail.

Kejriwal, however, refuted the ED’s claims by asserting before a court that the food he consumed was in conformity with the diet chart prepared by his doctor.

“Out of 48 meals sent from home, only three times mangoes were there…,” Singhvi told the court.

Bharadwaj said Kejriwal was allowed by the court to use a machine in the jail to monitor his daily blood sugar levels.

"Overall, it was a conspiracy to finish Kejriwal so his multiple organ damage and when he comes out of jail after 2-4 months he goes for treatment of kidney, heart and other organs," said Bharadwaj, who holds the portfolio of health in Delhi government.

Mangaluru: This year too, the Mangaluru International Airport has missed being designated as an embarkation point for the annual hajj pilgrimage.

According to the Haj Committee of India, not many are choosing Mangaluru as an embarkation point. Last year, although Mangaluru was notified as one of the embarkation points, the Union government removed it from the list at the last minute.

Several associations and organisations submitted memorandums to the Haj Committee of India, requesting the reinstatement of Mangaluru as one of the embarkation points, but their efforts have not materialised this year either.

The use of Mangaluru Airport as an embarkation point for the haj began in 2010. In 2019, 1,400 haj pilgrims flew from MIA to Saudi Arabia.

“When the number is less, it is difficult to consider it. It was the same issue as last year,” reacted AP Abdullakutty, chairman of the Haj Committee of India.
Mangaluru as an embarkation point served people from undivided Dakshina Kannada, Kodagu, Shivamogga, Uttara Kannada, and Chikkamagaluru districts.
Last year, the Muslim Central Committee of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts submitted a memorandum to Abdullakutty. They expressed their disappointment with Abdullakutty and stated that Mangaluru had a good number of applicants ever since it was identified as an embarkation point.
Now, they have to travel to Bengaluru.

UT Khader, speaker of the Karnataka legislative assembly, pointed out that several Union ministries are involved in the process of designating embarkation points for the haj.

“We are not sure why MIA as an embarkation point was removed. Is it because of fewer applications, or are airlines not willing to bid for MIA as an embarkation point? Is it only an issue with MIA as an embarkation point, or are there other airports in the country facing similar issues? We will try to find out and seek answers. Meanwhile, we will also start working at the earliest so that MIA is considered as an embarkation point for hajj next year,” said Khader.
