Belthangady, Aug 22: After a complaint was lodged accusing the partners of Varidhi Charitable Trust of cheating and duping the investors of lakhs of rupees, Belthangady police on Thursday seized the office where the Trust was based.
On July 17, they have lodged a complaint against Yeshwant from Markanja village, Suresh, Niranjan and Bharat, who were agents of the lucky scheme.
According to the duped investors, the agents assured them of attractive gifts if they invested in the scheme and thus, duped them of lakhs of money altogether.
Belthangady have registered a case and are conducting an investigation in this regard. As part of the investigation, they have seized the office. They have also seized computers, record sheets, cupboards and a safe from the office premises.
Having offices not only in Moodbidri, but also in Sullia, Puttur, Madikeri, Karkala and Moodbidri, it is said that the partners of the enterprise had cheated people of their money in the respective offices.
Around 1,500 people have been reportedly duped into investing money in the enterprise with the assurance of winning attractive gifts in a lucky draw scheme. It is said that the agens had duped people of money to the tune of Rs 35 lakhs.
The accused have long been absconding.
