Mangalore, Sep 18: Senior Senator of Maryland County John Akel Ballout from Republic of Liberia has called Karnataka Health and Family Welfare Minister U T Khader to assist Liberia to fight the deadly Ebola virus which had infected around 3,000 people in Africa.
Emphasizing that Ebola was a deadly killer disease in which chances of surviving for the infected were only ten percent, he stressed on the gravity of the epidemic and expressed his fear that if not contained it would spread globally and would be a threat to mankind.
He requested Mr Khader to extend his support to Head of State of Liberia Madame Ellen Johnson Sirleaf and Government of Liberia in its fight to eradicate the disease and also requested him to provide an adequate supply of ayurvedic medicine and medical equipment to test its effectiveness in curing the infected people in Liberia.
In response, Mr Khader expressed his sympathy to families affected by the virus and pledged full support from the Department of Health, Government of Karnataka. He extended his commitment and assured Senator Ballout of sending free medicine as samples to the Republic of Liberia.
He said that once the effectiveness of Ayurvedic medicine on affected Ebola patients was confirmed by Liberian authorities, the Government of Karnataka would supply more medicine and necessary medical equipment at no cost to Liberia and other affected countries like Sierra Leone, Guinea and Democratic Republic of Congo where the outbreak of Ebola began.
Senator Ballout thanked Mr Khader for his assistance and assurance for providing free experimental medicine to combat Ebola in Liberia.
Wilfred D'Souza, who was in Liberia since two years is a former president of a students' union of Dakshina Kannada and was closely associated with UT Khader earlier during their student political organisation days, had arranged the tele-meeting between the two political representatives recently.
