Mangalore, Sep 30: The Dakshina Kannada district unit of Democratic Youth Federation of India organized a protest meet in the city demanding the state government to introduce KSRTC buses to rural areas in Mangalore Assembly constituency limits.
The protesters took out a procession from the office of Deputy Commissioner's the office of RTO. Addressing the protesters in front of RTO's office on Monday, DYFI State President Muneer Katipalla there is a need to end the monopoly of arrogant private bus owners in the region.
Mr Katipalla said that even though the number of commuters is increasing with every passing day within Mangalore Assembly limits, especially on Mangalore-Ullal route, the number of buses has not been increased.
He said that the monopoly of a few private bus owners, who possess permits, is indeed a curse for thousands of regular commuters, who hang on to their lives in the overcrowded buses.
The residents of Amblamogar, Harekala, Sajipa, Mudipu, Manjanadi, Naringana, Montepadavu, Kinya, Belma are facing hardship due to insufficient transport facilities, he said.
Accusing the private bus owners of becoming a hurdle to introduce KSRTC buses, he said some times they cancel their service or reduce number of trips without thinking about the problems of regular commuters.
The protesters handed over a memorandum of demands to Assistant Regional Transport Officer A R Sridhar Naik. They also threatened to intensify protest if their demands are not met.
