Udupi, Oct 25: Three members of a family including a teenager lost their lives after they swept away by a high tide at Kaup beach in Udupi district on Saturday evening.
The body of Jagadish Rao (40), a resident of Karkala was retrieved from the sea within a half an hour of the tragedy. However his cousin Sunil Rao, a resident of Sanur, and nephew Harsha (14), a student from Bangalore, who were swept away along with Jagadish are still missing.
Two of their relatives - Harishchandra (45) and Prajwal (14) were rescued from drowning on the occasion.
The victims had come to Kaup beach along with group of more than a dozen people, who had decided for a family excursion.
Among them, a few people jumped into the water and began to swim in spite of continuous warning from local people. Unfortunately three of them drowned.
Deceased Jagdish Rao's wife and two children, and Sunil Rao's mother, brother and sister were also present at the beach when the tragedy took place. Karkala MLA Sunil Kumar visited the spot.
