New Delhi, Nov 20: In a fresh case of honour killing, a 21-year-old girl was allegedly murdered in the capital by her parents who opposed her marriage to a youth belonging to a different caste.

The deceased, identified as Bhawna Yadav, a final year student of Sanskrit Honours at Venkateswara College, was allegedly strangled to death by her parents Jagmohan Yadav, a property dealer and his wife Savitri, on Saturday night at their house in Bharat Vihar, Kakrola in South West Delhi, police said.

“They took her body to Alwar, Rajasthan, where they burnt it at their ancestral village. We have arrested the parents and further investigations are underway,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (South-West) Suman Goyal. Bhawna and Abhishek Seth (24), who is a government official, had met each other at Venkateswara College in August 2012 through a common friend.

They fell in love and wanted to marry each other but knew that their parents won't approve of their relationship, police said. The young couple, however, got married on November 12 at the Arya Samaj Mandir at Mandir Marg in New Delhi. Abhishek then took Bhawna to his home in Uttam Nagar in West Delhi where his parents accepted their marriage, they said.

According to Abhishek, Bhawna's parents reached his home that very night and said that they would get them married in a grand function and took their daughter with them. “However, once they returned home, they told Bhawna that they don't accept this marriage and they would get her married as per their wish. Bhawna then returned to my place on November 14. Her parents again visited our house with some neighbours and assured that they would do a chunni ceremony' (engagement ceremony) at their home and send my wife back on Sunday,” said Abhishek.

However, on Saturday night, Abhishek got a call from Bhawna's maternal uncle Lakhan who allegedly threatened to kill both of them. “Minutes later, I got a call from Bhawna that her uncle was drunk and he should ignore him. The next morning, repeated calls on Bhawna and her parent's number went unanswered. Sometime later, I got a call from her cousin Sachin who informed me that Bhawna was cremated in Alwar, following which I approached police,” said Abhishek in his police complaint.

One of Bhawna's neighbour Mahinder told police that her parents told him that she was bitten by a snake and he drove them to their ancestral place in Alwar in his car for some tantrik rituals' to get her cured. “Mahinder told us that Bhawna appeared to be dead when she was kept in his car,” the police official added. Following the disclosure, police nabbed the parents from their house.

“As the body has been disposed off, the exact methodology of how she was killed is being ascertained and further investigations are underway. It has emerged that she was strangled to death. Her parents during interrogation told us that they were getting a bad name in their community for their daughter's step and that is why they eliminated her,” the official added. An FIR was lodged at Dwarka North Police Station in connection with the incident.

Mangaluru, May 4: The Mangaluru International Airport was besieged with a harrowing message of terror recently, when an email, purportedly from malevolent elements, menacingly declared the planting of bombs within the airport premises.

Addressed to the office of the airport authority, the missive, steeped in ominous overtones, bore the ominous signature of a terrorist faction, ominously named 'Terrorizers 111'.

The communication, disseminated in English, ominously detailed the clandestine emplacement of explosives in areas eluding facile detection, accompanied by a chilling warning of their imminent detonation. The threat, ominously looming over not only the infrastructure but also the airborne vessels, portended a catastrophic deluge of bloodshed and loss.

In response to this dire communiqué, airport authorities swiftly engaged the apparatus of law enforcement, dispatching urgent alerts to the vigilant guardians of public safety. Acting upon the dictates of higher echelons, a formal dossier of this menacing correspondence was meticulously compiled, cloaked in the veil of confidentiality to thwart any premature dissemination.

Mangaluru International Airport found itself in grim camaraderie with more than 30 counterparts under the aegis of the Airport Authority of India (AAI) and private domains, all recipients of this chilling electronic diatribe. A comprehensive net of precautionary measures was swiftly cast, fortifying the bastions of security in anticipation of any nefarious designs lurking within the shadows.

Several women, believed to be victims of Prajwal Revanna, have left their homes in Karnataka's Hassan district over the last ten days, according to media reports.

These departures reportedly come amid fear and stigma after their identities became public due to the circulating video clips showing the women who were allegedly sexually assaulted by Prajwal Revanna.

"The entire district is in H D Revanna’s control. You speak ill about them and chances are high that it will reach them, because the family and the party have a large following," a shopkeeper in Hagare - 20 km from Hassan – was quoted as saying by the news paper.

Hassan is the bastion of the JD(S) supremo Deve Gowda, and Prajwal, his grandson, is the sitting MP.

The family of the woman whose complaint was the basis of the first FIR against Prajwal has now left their home, the publication reported, citing a neighbour who said, "The woman worked at Revanna’s house as a house help. Some of her videos started to circulate and then, her house was seen locked. We don’t know when she left."

Notably, a former Zilla Panchayat member has also filed a rape case against Prajwal, and in that village many women who worked for the party formerly are now incommunicado, a JD(S) leader told the publication. "We noticed many of the party women deleting their photos with Prajwal on social media. In some instances, men are questioning their wives about their association with the MP. It is shattering the lives of many women in the district," he said.

The local leader added that the former Zilla Panchayat member was there on April 24, but no one had seen the family since the videos came out.

The case is currently being probed by an SIT team and when they reached the Revanna residence, party workers were reportedly heard talking about the women. "I know this woman, she lived close to our residence and was very active in JD(S) activities. Her house is locked… she has small children," one said, as per IE.

Another shopkeeper added, "It was really wrong to reveal the faces of the women. I know some of them, and they have gone into hiding. We don’t know whether they can return."

He noted that it is impossible to survive in Hassan while fighting a case against the Revanna family.

While Prajwal's father, H D Revanna is in SIT custody, a Blue Corner notice has been issued against the sitting MP.

Mangaluru: Dakshina Kannada Zilla Panchayat High School in Harekala, popularly known as Padma Shri awardee Harekala Hajabba’s school, is gearing up to inaugurate its first batch of Pre-University (PU) courses starting June 1.

The government issued an order to elevate the school established by Padma Shri awardee Harekala Hajabba to the status of a PU College a few months ago.

The School Education and Literacy Department (PU Education) has formally sanctioned the upgrade for the school.

CD Jayanna, the deputy director of PU Education, confirmed that all necessary approvals have been obtained from the government to initiate PU classes.

“Hajabba’s school will kick off PU classes for its inaugural batch on June 1. We have appointed a senior lecturer as the interim principal for the PU college. Presently, the school possesses the essential temporary infrastructure to begin the I PU batch. Plans are underway to enhance the infrastructure for the PU college in the future. Currently, the school boasts adequate classrooms and facilities to commence PU classes,” stated Jayanna.

Harekala Hajabba, an orange vendor, personally erected the school in his native village, New Padpu in Harekala, situated approximately 35 km from Mangaluru. For several years, he has tirelessly petitioned the government for the establishment of a PU college.

Expressing his gratitude, Hajabba mentioned that 19 students who recently completed their SSLC examinations are poised to enroll in the new PU college. He added, “We anticipate enrollment from neighboring villages as well. Both the interim principal and the PU education department have been diligently orchestrating the necessary arrangements to initiate classes.”

He extended his appreciation to the government, local representatives, and officials for their unwavering support.
