Mangaluru, Dec 18: The recently-formed Retired Police Officers' Welfare Association in Dakshina Kannada district will now have an office of their own after it was inaugurated inside the premises of district police headquarters here on Wednesday.
DK Superintendent of Police S D Sharanappa inaugurated the new office which will henceforth serve as the administrative centre of the association.
Speaking after inaugurating the new office, Mr Sharanappa said that despite rendering their services to the society, there was a negative image among people concerning the police department and its personnel. In the present day, there is not much change in this notion in the society, even with increased public and police interactions. However, having served the country there should always be self-confidence and a sense of pride among retired police officers, he said.
Retired superintendent of police and honorary president of the association S K Poonja, retired assistant sub-inspector Vasanth Kumar, officer bearers of retired policemen's association from Udupi district and several retired police officers were present on the occasion.
President of the association B J Bhandary welcomed the gathering while secretary of the association Manjunath proposed a vote of thanks.
