Mangaluru, Jan 25: Over a hundred motorbikes and two-wheelers took part in a bike rally – ‘Riders for Helmets’ in the city on Sunday promoting safe riding rules including compulsory usage of helmets while riding two-wheelers in Mangaluru.
As part of 26th National Road Safety Week - 2015, Dakshina Kannada district administration, Transport Department and Mangaluru Traffic Police in collaboration with Centre for Health and Development (CHD), Mangaluru and Rev Limiterz, a bike rally was held from Nehru Maidan to Ladyhill Circle on Sunday.
The bike rally was flagged off by DCP (Crime & Traffic) N Vishnuvardhan, in the presence of Assistant Regional Transport Officer G S Hegde, ACP Uday Nayak and officials of Mangaluru City Traffic Police department.
Riding in a convoy, the bikers started from Nehru Maidan and rode towards Ladyhill via Bunts Hostel and Lalbagh, promoting usage of helmets and demonstrating safe riding by observing traffic and safety rules without over-speeding.
Members of CHD, Rev Limiterz, Naked Wolves and other biking groups participated in the rally. Prior to flagging off, guest of honour RJ Errol administered a road-safety pledge to the participants.
At the end of the rally, the bikers gathered together and took another oath to follow and encourage safety and traffic rules among others, and pledged to make Mangaluru an accident-free city.
The participants of the rally also interacted with Mr Hegde, PSI Gopalkrishna Bhat and Guru Kamath from traffic police department.
