Mangaluru, Feb 1: Justifying KPCC’s decision to remove Bharatiya Hindu Parishad founder A Hemanath Shetty from the post of Puttur block Congress president, veteran Congress leader B Janardhan Poojary said that former was working against the principles and tenets of the party, thereby working in favour of the Sangh Parivar.
Speaking at a press conference here on Sunday, the former union minister accused Mr Shetty of indirectly supporting the Sangh Parivar which wished to end the existence of Congress in the country. By making statements in the media that the Congress party was anti-Hindu, he has implied that the Congress had failed to protect the interests of the Hindus who make up 80 percent of the population and was opposed to protecting them, he criticised.
“You have challenged Congress supremo Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi. You have attacked Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and every Congress worker in the state. By working in favour of the Sangh Parivar, you are trying to weaken the existence of Congress party,” he attacked, stating that the ousted block president should have instead worked towards strengthening the party as a Congressman.
“If you had belief in Congress and its tenets, you would have worked keeping in principles of the national party. We have a Constitution which proclaims secularism and we ought to work in accordance with those declarations,” he said, rubbishing Mr Shetty’s claims that Poojary was incapable of winning elections.
Congratulating KPCC president G Parameshwar for removing Mr Shetty from the post of Puttur Block Congress president, Mr Poojary said chided the BHP founder for launching an organisation within the party without seeking the approval of senior Congress leaders.
Khader slammed
When reminded by a journalist that the health minister UT Khader had spoken in favour of the organisation floated by Hemanath Shetty, he derided the former stating that the main priority of the minister was gaining power and votes from people, not the party.
