Kasaragod, Mar 3: Having cheated dozens of persons of crores of rupees promising them employment aboard a vessel in Singapore, two youth from Kasargod were arrested by the police after their con finally came to light.
It is alleged that over 10 accused were involved of the scam, who have been absconding till date. A case has been registered against the accused on the basis of complaints lodged by Avinash, Ajit and Sajith from Kasargod and Rajendran, Muhammed and Ashraf from Thiruvunanthapuram, and two were arrested by Kasaragod police in connection with the case.
Innocent persons were promised good jobs aboard a ship in Singapore with good salaries and lured by the con artists who collected large amounts of cash from the victims of the con. Several had pawned their gold ornaments and borrowed large amount of loans and handed it to the accused with the belief of getting well-paid jobs in Singapore.
It is believed that each victim had been cheated of Rs 40,000 to Rs 60,000. The accused had asked for a sum of Rs 1.25 lakh per person for providing them with a Singaporean Visa, and had asked for an advance payment of half the sum.
Not having received any confirmation of their assured jobs for several weeks the job applicants tried to reach them only to find them absconding.
In this way, several complaints had been lodged in connection with the fraud, and after keeping a look-out, police were able to nab two accused in this regard. Efforts are being made by the police to trace the other accused.
