Bengaluru, Mar 25: Controversial Kannada writer Dr M Chidananda Murthy was on Wednesday arrested in front of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah at a function at banquet hall of the Vidhana Soudha on Wednesday.
The 84-year-old writer, who is known for his Hindutva views, along with some of the supporters raised objection to the birth celebration of Devaradasi Maiyya as he feels the Jethadevaradasi Maiyya's contribution is much more than Devaradasi Maiyya.
When Mr Murthy continued insult Devaradasi Maiyya he was taken out of the hall by the organisers and the police in civil dress. Later, the police detained him with his supporters.
After the function, Chief minister evaded the questions of the media while Kannada and Culture minister Uma Shree defended the government. However, he admitted that the way the renowned writer was taken out was wrong.
Leader of the Opposition Jagdish Shetter also condemned the Act against the old literary figure.
