Mangaluru, Mar 29: To enhance international connectivity, private carrier Jet Airways launched its daily direct international flight service between Mangaluru and Abu Dhabi on Sunday. This is the second flight launched by the airline company to the Middle East from Mangaluru, with an existing flight service to Dubai.
As part of the airline’s plan to enhance global connectivity from emerging metro cities in India, the introduction of Mangaluru-Abu Dhabi flight service will allow passengers to enjoy direct connectivity from Mangaluru to international destinations such as Brussels, Frankfurt, Edinburgh, Munich, Manchester, Dusseldorf, Belgrade, Rome and Paris in Europe, Muscat, Riyadh, Bahrain, Doha, Dammam, Jeddah and Kuwait in the Middle East and Cairo in Africa – with a single stop in Abu Dhabi thanks code sharing agreement with Etihad Airways.
Addressing mediapersons before the launch of the maiden flight to Abu Dhabi from Mangaluru International Airport at Bajpe here on Sunday, Chief Commercial Officer of Jet Airways Raj Sivakumar said that the direct flight from Mangaluru to Abu Dhabi, UAE’s commercial capital would improve convenience and connectivity to other popular international destinations.
Jet Airways flight 9W 502 would depart from Mangaluru International Airport at 5.50 p.m. and arrive at Abu Dhabi at 8.20 p.m. (local time). The return flight 9W 501 will depart from Abu Dhabi at 8.45 a.m. (local time) and arrive at Mangaluru at 1.45 p.m. This flight will also be code shared by Jet Airways’ strategic partner Etihad Airways.
He said that the new flight service launched by Jet Airways would cater to an overwhelming demand from a large number of Indians settled in the Middle East and those wanting to travel overseas on business and tourism from Mangaluru and its neighbouring areas. The growing international market is a huge potential for Jet Airways, he informed, adding that the launch of additional flights from Mangaluru to other cities in the Middle East was a possibility in the future depending on the demand.
Jet Airways currently operates a fleet of 116 aircrafts, with flights to 73 destinations across India and aboard. An approximate 2,000 passengers fly to Abu Dhabi from Indian cities on a daily basis. On the Mangaluru-Abu Dhabi route, the airline has deployed Boeing 737-800 Next Generation (NG) aircraft, he informed.

The flight was flagged off from Mangaluru International Airport on Sunday in the presence of Mangaluru MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, health minister U T Khader, sports minister Abhayachandra Jain, Mangaluru North MLA B A Mohideen Bava and Mangaluru South MLA J R Lobo.
