Mangaluru, Jun 30: A city based financier, who had been absconding for nearly one year, was on Monday arrested by police on charge of Abdul Hameed (47), a resident of Bunder.
The arrested has been identified as Bipin Rai, proprietor of Yashoda Krishna Finance, Pumpwell, Mangaluru.
Rai had been absconding ever since the murder came to light on October 7, 2014, and the police had issued a lookout circular after learning that he had fled to Thailand.
The immigration officials at the Mangaluru International Airport handed over Rai to the Mangaluru Rural police after he arrived from Thailand via Dubai on Monday. The accused has now been remanded in judicial custody.
Abdul Hameed’s body was found with multiple injuries inflicted by sharp weapons at an isolated place in Vaidyanathanagara near Shaktinagar.
His wife, Sabeena, had lodged a complaint with the police that her husband had got loan from a financier and he must have been murdered for non-payment of the money. The Mangaluru Rural police registered a murder case.
During the investigation, the police learnt that Abdul Hameed had availed himself of a loan from Rai and he had failed to repay. They also learnt that Rai gave ‘supari’ to Harish Kembaru and Abihshek Naguri to kill Abdul Hameed.
The duo confessed to the police that Rai and Harish Sapalya had paid money to them to kill Abdul Hameed. The police also arrested Sapalya and recovered weapons and vehicles used for the murder on October 10, 2014. However, Rai was still at large.
