New Delhi, Jul 7: As many as 38 Muslim candidates including four women (3.07%) have qualified in the coveted civil service Examination for 2014 conducted by the Union Public Service Commission UPSC in 2014, the results of which were recently announced.
A total of 1,236 candidates have been recommended for appointment into the prestigious Indian Administrative Service, Indian Police Service, and Indian Foreign Service and other central services.
Interestingly, this year four out five toppers are women. The toppers are Ira Singhal, Renu Raj and Nidhi Gupta, Vandana Rao and Suharsha Bhagat.
Last year, a total of 1122 candidates had made it to the prestigious civil services, of which only 34 were Muslims. The percentage of Muslims clearing the civil service examinations has hovered around 3% for last few years, although Muslims comprise about 13-14 % of the total population.
