Most of the shops and business establishments were remained closed in Mangaluru and Udupi along with banks and insurance companies.

Dakshina Kannada district administration had already declared holiday for the schools and colleges in the district citing the impact of bandh on transportation service.

Early in the morning the agitators burnt tyres on the roads in Mangaluru, Udupi and Kunapur. Several buses were stoned by miscreants.

In the morning a group of activists of Communist Party of India (Marxist), Karmika Rakshana Vedike and other members of other trade unions want around the Udupi city seeking support from the people for bandh and urging them to keep their shops closed till evening.

Buses belonging to Alva’s Educational Institution and Canara Engineering College in Dakshina Kannada were attacked with stones. Three government buses were damaged due to stone pelting by miscreants at Padil in Mangaluru in the early morning.

The driver of one of the buses also suffered injuries during the attack. However, no other major untoward incident was reported in the morning.

No vehicular movement was seen at State Bank Bus Terminus in the heart of the Mangaluru City. “Today Bus Bandh” posters were seen on the front glasses of parked buses.

Bus stands in other prominent towns of coastal Karnataka including Udupi, Kundapur, Moodbidri, Karwar wore a deserted look.

The passengers who arrived in the Mangaluru from different parts in buses and trains were seen stranded early in the morning. However, after sometime a few auto-rickshaws were seen plying in the city.

The all India strike was in response to the call given by trade unions against the proposed changes in labour laws by the Narendra Modi-led union government.

As many as 10 central trade unions are holding one-day nationwide strike even as BJP-backed Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh and National Front of Indian Trade Unions have pulled out.

The coastal district units of the All India Trade Union Congress have supported the bandh. In a release, it alleged that the Union government was acting like an agent of the corporate sector which suppressed labour rights.

Motor Transport and Engineering Workers Union also has supported the bandh. Vasant Achary, CITU leader, Ashok, President, Bus Employees Association, Vishwanath Kulal, Secretary have also said that that the workers of private service, express, and city buses from the district are going on strike. More details are awaited.

Several women, believed to be victims of Prajwal Revanna, have left their homes in Karnataka's Hassan district over the last ten days, according to media reports.

These departures reportedly come amid fear and stigma after their identities became public due to the circulating video clips showing the women who were allegedly sexually assaulted by Prajwal Revanna.

"The entire district is in H D Revanna’s control. You speak ill about them and chances are high that it will reach them, because the family and the party have a large following," a shopkeeper in Hagare - 20 km from Hassan – was quoted as saying by the news paper.

Hassan is the bastion of the JD(S) supremo Deve Gowda, and Prajwal, his grandson, is the sitting MP.

The family of the woman whose complaint was the basis of the first FIR against Prajwal has now left their home, the publication reported, citing a neighbour who said, "The woman worked at Revanna’s house as a house help. Some of her videos started to circulate and then, her house was seen locked. We don’t know when she left."

Notably, a former Zilla Panchayat member has also filed a rape case against Prajwal, and in that village many women who worked for the party formerly are now incommunicado, a JD(S) leader told the publication. "We noticed many of the party women deleting their photos with Prajwal on social media. In some instances, men are questioning their wives about their association with the MP. It is shattering the lives of many women in the district," he said.

The local leader added that the former Zilla Panchayat member was there on April 24, but no one had seen the family since the videos came out.

The case is currently being probed by an SIT team and when they reached the Revanna residence, party workers were reportedly heard talking about the women. "I know this woman, she lived close to our residence and was very active in JD(S) activities. Her house is locked… she has small children," one said, as per IE.

Another shopkeeper added, "It was really wrong to reveal the faces of the women. I know some of them, and they have gone into hiding. We don’t know whether they can return."

He noted that it is impossible to survive in Hassan while fighting a case against the Revanna family.

While Prajwal's father, H D Revanna is in SIT custody, a Blue Corner notice has been issued against the sitting MP.

It is learned that the KFD is slowly spreading to the newer areas of coastal and malnad areas of Karnataka

According to officials, KFD spreads due to bites of ticks that generally survive on monkeys. This tick bites humans which causes the infection. Humans also contract the disease by coming in contact with cattle bitten by ticks.

Bengaluru, May 6: Arrested JD-S MLA H.D. Revanna, the son of former PM H.D. Deve Gowda, on Sunday said that there is no evidence against him in the sex video scandal kidnapping case and that it was a "conspiracy" against him.

Talking to the media, while being taken for a medical test before being produced in front of a court here, Revanna stated that a kidnapping case had been lodged against him though he does not have 'one black mark' against him in his entire career of 40 years.

"Without evidence, I have been targeted... All allegations against me are false. My arrest has been made out of ill intention," he claimed.

"The case was lodged on April 28, then, they did not have any evidence. Later, the fake evidence was created on May 2 and I was fixed," he alleged.

Home Minister Dr G. Parameshwara stated on Sunday that a Blue Corner notice has already been issued against Revanna's son and MP Prajwal Revanna, the prime accused in the sex video scandal, as he is believed to be abroad.

"The Interpol will communicate to all nations and he will be located. Once he is located, the SIT will take a call on how he should be secured and brought back to India," he added.

Revanna was arrested on Saturday on charges of kidnapping one of the victims of the sex video scandal.

Parameshwara further maintained that the arrest of Revanna has saddened JD-S leaders and if action was not taken, the SIT would be blamed too.

Meanwhile, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge refused to comment on the alleged sex video scandal involving Prajwal Revanna.

About Revanna's arrest, he said that the SIT would initiate action as per the law. "Those indulging in such acts must be taught a lesson and justice should be given to the families of victims. No one can escape the law. No one should use this case politically," he stated.
