New Delhi, Sep 6: President Pranab Mukherjee conferred the national award on 348 teachers, 15 of them from Karnataka, for their outstanding contribution in the field of teaching and mentoring schoolchildren, here on Saturday.
The teachers were felicitated at a function organised by the Human Resource Development Ministry to mark Teachers Day. The award carries a silver medal, certificate and Rs 50,000 in cash.
Visually challenged Nagappa R Shirol, a music teacher from Government High School in Gadag, Karnataka, bagged the national award for conducting various innovative academic, curricular and extra-curricular activities for the improvement of his students’ education.
N B Sarojamma, an assistant mistress at Government Model Primary School, Nelamangala, Rural Bengaluru, received the coveted award for efforts in helping the school achieve “100 percent results”.
B Ganeshappa, headmaster of Government Higher Primary School, Shivamogga, was also felicitated with the national award for leading “100 percent results”.
Headmistress of Sri Gurukula Aided Higher Primary School, Udupi, N Vasanthi walked away with the award “for increasing the enrolment of students in her school with sincere effort and hard work”.
Others from Karnataka who received the award from the President are M V Kusuma, assistant teacher at Government Higher Primary School, Hassan; M Yashodhamma, headmistress of Government Higher Primary School, Chikkamagaluru; Veena Ramkrishna Athavale, physical education teacher at R C Chikkamath Government Model Primary School, Dharwad; Nimbappa Solagi, assistant teacher at GHP School, Gadag; and Bhushan G Kattimani, headmaster of Government HPS Ashanal, Yadgir.
Limbhanna Karabhari, headmaster of Government Higher Primary School in Gangavati; M Venkatesha, assistant teacher at GLP School in Hosadevalapura; S Nagabhushanaiah, assistant master at Government High School in Akkirampura; Ashoka Kumar Shetty, headmaster of Srinikethana High School in Brahmavar; Abdul Rashid A Sanadi, assistant master at DYC Bharatesh High School in Belagavi; and T P Veerendra, assistant teacher at Sri Sharanabasaveshwara High School in Ballari also received the award.
