Udupi, Oct 3: The reckless driving by a truck driver claimed the life of a young woman and injured nearly a dozen passengers near Mabukala bridge in Brahmavar, Udupi district on Saturday.
24-year-old Merita D'Silva, a clerk at SMS College, Brahmavar, was knocked down by the fish truck when she was walking towards a passenger bus.
The truck driver completely lost control over his vehicle after hitting the woman and then rammed into the bus from behind.
The ill-fated Udupi-Hangarakatte bus was stopped to take the passengers and the victim was also supposed to board the same bus.
A critically injured Merita was rushed to a hospital from the spot soon after the accident. But she breathed her last within a few minutes.
The other injured are the passengers on board the bus. They were admitted to a private hospital.
A case has been registered at Brahmavar police station.
