“A delegation of minister of fisheries from all the coastal states will go the Centre seeking integrated fishing policy for coastal states. Such a policy helps in tackling the problem of fish famine,” he said.

The state government will make also take steps to formulate a sports policy. A committee formed three years ago to draft the policy is yet to submit its report.

He said he will hold talks with the Mangalore City Corporation (MCC) about the pathetic condition of fish markets and the plight of women who sell fish.

“The experience I had as president of Dakshina Kannada Mogaveera Mahajana Sangha has helped in my political career,” he said and promised to work towards the welfare of Mogaveera community. The minister said he was aged 28 when he became the president of Dakshina Kannada Mogaveera Mahajana Sangha. “At the age of 48, I have become a minister. God blesses those who have worked with integrity and transparency. When I met AICC Chairperson Sonia Gandhi recently, I promised her of giving a corruption-free governance,” said Madhwaraj.

Entrepreneur G Shankar called upon the members of fishermen community to wage a unified struggle for their rights. “In spite of political parties claiming to be secular, caste plays a vital role while issuing the tickets to contest the election. Hailing from a Mogaveera community, Minister Madhwaraj knows the pulse of community members,” he said.

Alva's Education Trust Chairman Dr M Mohan Alva said that Mogaveera community members have contributed to the economy of the district and the country through their occupation. “The community members had incurred loss when huge industries were set up in and around Mangaluru. They have made sacrifice for the development of the district. The sports policy is need of the hour to promote sports talent in the state,” Dr Alva said.

MLA Abhayachandra Jain said the minister should look into the demand for an indoor shuttle court, football ground, cricket stadium and swimming pool for Mangaluru.
“The chief minister has given me three year's time to serve the people. Power is not permanent. It is the work which one does while in power matters. Madhwaraj has been inducted to the Cabinet to give representation to fishermen community,” he said.

MLA J R Lobo said phase III of construction of the new fishing harbour at Mangaluru old port bunder needs to be completed at the earliest to decongest the existing harbour. With lack of facilities for anchoring boats, many fishermen anchor outside the port. Students of Mogaveera community who have secured more than 90% marks in SSLC and PU were felicitated on the occasion.

Bengaluru, Apr 29: HD Revanna, the father of Karnataka MP Prajwal Revanna, has accused rivals of creating a conspiracy out of "old videos", a comment that is likely to raise a bigger row over his son's alleged link to the obscene videos.

A woman yesterday filed a police case against Prajwal Revanna and his father over alleged sexual assault. Prajwal Revanna, the Janata Dal (Secular) MP and grandson of former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda, has denied the latest allegations and also filed a police complaint over circulation of obscene videos, which he said were morphed.

Prajwal Revanna left for Germany on Saturday morning after voting in the Lok Sabha elections a day earlier.

"I know what kind of conspiracy is going on. I am not someone who'll get scared and run away. They have released something that was 4-5 years old. Expelling him from the party is left to the party high command," HD Revanna said.

When it was pointed out that an FIR has been registered against him too, he said, "There is politics, I don't want to comment. They (Congress) are in government and they will do whatever they want."

"All these things are not just today, the Deve Gowda family in the last 40 years (has been targeted by) Congress. CoD (now CID), Lokayukta probe, we have been facing for the last 40 years... I don't want to react to anything...let them take action in accordance with law," he said, adding that he hasn't spoken to Deve Gowda on the issue.

"Since the special investigation team is looking into the case, I will not react any further," HD Revanna said.

Yesterday, a first information report was filed against the father-son duo on charges of sexual harassment, intimidation and outraging the dignity of a woman.

The survivor alleged both sexually assaulted her, and when Revanna's wife was not home, he touched her inappropriately and used to sexually assault her. The complainant alleged Prajwal Revanna also misbehaved with her daughter over a video call. "My daughter blocked his number after repeated calls," the complainant said.

The latest FIR comes when Prajwal Revanna is already in the middle of a controversy after some objectionable videos went viral on social media allegedly involving him.

Prajwal Revanna is seeking a fresh term in the Lok Sabha from as a National Democratic Alliance (NDA) candidate from Hassan.

Bengaluru, Apr 25: Former union minister C M Ibrahim, who was expelled from Janata Dal (Secular) for protesting against party’s alliance with BJP, has stressed on need for a third front not just at the national level, but also in Karnataka.

Addressing a news conference in Bengaluru on Wednesday, he said he’s planning to form a third front in Karnataka along with Lingayat Seer Dingaleshwar Swami.

Ibrahim said that he will tour the state between April 27 and May 4 and that he would meet Dingaleshwar Swami on April 29. “There is a need for the third front in this country. We will try to establish a third front in association with the seer and we hope we will be successful in those efforts,” he said.

Expressing disappointment with the Congress for not doing enough to gain the full confidence of Muslims, Ibrahim said that Congress is concentrating only on certain communities for votes, and ignoring Muslims.

“The Congress is not even caring for Muslims and Dalit votes. In some Muslim areas they did not even hold campaigns seeking votes and trying to convince the communities which never vote in their favour. I fear this may lead to low turnout and Congress may lose its vote base,” he opined.

Mentioning about guarantees on which Congress is strongly relying during this election, Ibrahim said, such things won’t work all the time. “Guarantees will not work anymore. Every election you need to give something new to the voters,” he added.

On Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s statement that Congress is trying to appease minorities for votes, Ibrahim requested both Congress and BJP parties not bring Muslims between them. “I request both parties. Leave us alone. Don’t make us sandwiches for your political sake. We are living with peace and hope even the Prime Minister will understand this,” Ibrahim added.

Launching a broadside against Prime Minister Deve Gowda, Ibrahim said, “Deve Gowda has sold his personality itself. Whatever I have told about JD(S) has come true. I pity, a former Prime Minister should not have come to this stage,” he said.
