Pakistan is not hell; we should not hate... I won't apologize for my views: Ramya

Bengaluru, Aug 23: Actress-turned-politician Ramya, who exposed the double standard of saffron forces while dealing with Pakistan, has made it clear that she would not apologies for saying that Pakistan is not hell.

“I respectful disagree, but Pakistan is not hell,” reiterated the former Mandya MP and Congress leader, today, after news broke that a lawyer has filed a complaint against her in court, asking a case of sedition be filed against her.

Ramya said she won't apologize, either, as she has no reason to, and hasn't done anything wrong.

"I don't have any ego at all and in any given incident, I would have apologised, but if I do in this case, the larger cause we're fighting for would go," Ramya explained.

The Kannada actress - whose real name is Divya Spandana - first indicated she thinks Pakistan may not quite be hell, when she recently addressed a women's rally in Mandya.

Some people protested because they believed her statements were a direct response to a comment Union Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar made last week when he equated visiting Pakistan with visiting hell.

A pro-BJP lawyer in Kodagu has registered a civil case against Ramya under IPC sections 124 (A) and 511 - the first one is to do with sedition.

"It's really sad that there is such a situation in the country today…Politicians want to polarise and spread hatred. Just because borders separate us we shouldn't hate others" Ramya said told a news agency, referring to the complaint filed against her.

"I'm free to express myself, am I not? Everyone is entitled to their views and that is what democracy is about. You can't force your ideology on anyone," Ramya said.

"It's freedom of speech, it's also our duty to speak on inclusiveness and peace. Curbing freedoms is wrong in democracy," she added.

The former popular actress had at the rally talked about Pakistan's hospitality. At the time she had just returned from visiting Pakistan for the SAARC Youth Summit.

On August 16, Parrikar reportedly said: "Our soldiers sent back five terrorists yesterday. Going to Pakistan is the same as going to hell," Parrikar said, according to ANI. "Pakistan has encouraged terrorism, and now they are facing consequences of that policy," he also said.

Twitter juxtaposed the two comments and all hell broke loose. Ramya was trolled. And then a gentleman from a Karnataka village took it upon himself to save the nation from anyone saying good things about Pakistan.

"I went there (Pakistan) for the SAARC Youth Summit. I spoke about peace, harmony and unity in diversity. When I got back, I was asked how Pakistan was and I said that the people there are just like us, and that we were treated very well. There was a lot of respect," Ramya had responded yesterday.

The Congress member repeated several times today that she stands by what she said. "I don't think I'm wrong. I also love Bangladesh, Sri Lanka. Of course I won't leave India, it's my home and I am not going to leave my dogs," Ramya said, clearly stating her priorities.

Why should Ramya hate Pakistan? She is abused only and only by Sangh Parivar activists. Are they Pakistanis?

She will hate only those who are trying to destroy India and constantly targeting Indian women and calling all true indians as anti-nationals.

Ramya spoke about normal pakistanis, how they treated her. There is nothing wrong in it.We as Indian should be tolerant towards our neighbours.Polarising this issue makes us very weak and insecure. The way she was interviewed in NDTV .Her answers were crisp and to the point.BELIEVE IT OR NOT SOMETIMES HATRED LEADS TO DESTRUCTION OF ONES OWN SELF.LOVE CAN MAKE OUR NATION GREAT AND PROUD.I AM PROUD BEING AN INDIAN THERE ARE TOLERANT INDIANS STILL EXISTING LIKE THESE.
WHAT AN IRONY ONE WHO TRIES TO BRING THE NATIONS CLOSER IS A CROOK,WHILE ONE WHO SPREADS HATRED AND POLARISE IS GREAT.WAH !WAH!

Mangaluru, June 10: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has arrested another prime accused in 2022 BJP Yuva Morcha worker Praveen Nettaru murder case.

32-year-old Jilla BJP Yuva Morcha committee member Nettaru was hacked to death in front of his broiler shop in Bellare of Dakshina Kannada by bike-borne miscreants in July 2022. The case is being investigated by the NIA and several arrests have been made so far.

Mustafa Paichar, accused number four in the case, was absconding after the murder and the NIA had declared a Rs 5 lakh reward to catch him.

He was arrested at Sakleshpur in Hassan district by the NIA team led by Inspector Shanmugam.

According to officials Mustafa was reportedly a member of now banned Popular Front of India and a resident of Shantinagar in Sullia in Dakshina Kannada.

dengue.jpg

Mangaluru, May 8: The health officials in Dakshina Kannada are concerned over the increase in dengue cases in the rural areas of the district. They've seen 108 cases since January, compared to 45 last year.

Dr. Naveen Chandra Kulal, who works on controlling diseases spread by insects, says humidity makes mosquitoes breed more.

People storing water in pots and drums during summer also make more mosquitoes, he added.

In Lingappayyakadu village near Mulky, a survey found people store lots of water because they don't have regular drinking water. Dr. Kulal says this water becomes a place for mosquitoes to breed if containers aren't closed properly.

Dengue cases are also rising in Bengaluru, Mysuru, and other districts, he said. Even though there haven't been big groups of dengue cases in Dakshina Kannada yet, the health department is trying hard to stop it from spreading. They're doing things like teaching people how to prevent dengue and getting rid of places where mosquitoes can breed.

So far this year, Dakshina Kannada district has only had 16 cases of malaria. Dr. Kulal says many of these cases were among workers who came from other states to work on building sites.

Dr. Thimmaiah HR, who works for the health department, says if people have a fever, they should go to the nearest clinic or hospital. He also says they should get tested if they have symptoms of dengue or malaria and be careful about the hot weather.

prajwalfamily.jpg

Several women, believed to be victims of Prajwal Revanna, have left their homes in Karnataka's Hassan district over the last ten days, according to media reports.

These departures reportedly come amid fear and stigma after their identities became public due to the circulating video clips showing the women who were allegedly sexually assaulted by Prajwal Revanna.

"The entire district is in H D Revanna’s control. You speak ill about them and chances are high that it will reach them, because the family and the party have a large following," a shopkeeper in Hagare - 20 km from Hassan – was quoted as saying by the news paper.

Hassan is the bastion of the JD(S) supremo Deve Gowda, and Prajwal, his grandson, is the sitting MP.

The family of the woman whose complaint was the basis of the first FIR against Prajwal has now left their home, the publication reported, citing a neighbour who said, "The woman worked at Revanna’s house as a house help. Some of her videos started to circulate and then, her house was seen locked. We don’t know when she left."

Notably, a former Zilla Panchayat member has also filed a rape case against Prajwal, and in that village many women who worked for the party formerly are now incommunicado, a JD(S) leader told the publication. "We noticed many of the party women deleting their photos with Prajwal on social media. In some instances, men are questioning their wives about their association with the MP. It is shattering the lives of many women in the district," he said.

The local leader added that the former Zilla Panchayat member was there on April 24, but no one had seen the family since the videos came out.

The case is currently being probed by an SIT team and when they reached the Revanna residence, party workers were reportedly heard talking about the women. "I know this woman, she lived close to our residence and was very active in JD(S) activities. Her house is locked… she has small children," one said, as per IE.

Another shopkeeper added, "It was really wrong to reveal the faces of the women. I know some of them, and they have gone into hiding. We don’t know whether they can return."

He noted that it is impossible to survive in Hassan while fighting a case against the Revanna family.

While Prajwal's father, H D Revanna is in SIT custody, a Blue Corner notice has been issued against the sitting MP.
