Kannur, OCT 17: Prime Minister Narendra Modi should advise the RSS cadres in the state to avoid violence, said CPI(M) state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan on Sunday.
After visiting the house of the slain CPI(M) worker Mohanan K, at Valankichal near Koothuparamba along with chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan and other leaders, he said the CPI(M) had already made it clear that it was ready for discussions to bring about peace but the RSS leadership was not ready for it. "Once the RSS expresses its readiness for discussion, the steps would naturally be taken," he said.
"Chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan has already taken the initiative for peace. During a visit to Delhi he asked union ministers Ananthkumar and Rajnath Singh to designate RSS representatives for discussion, but there was no response from their side," he added.
The RSS preach peace on one side and instigates the cadres to commit violence , said the CPI(M) state secretary. He also said the CPI(M) had always maintained restraint but the RSS was extremely provocative as was seen in Valankichal. However, the CPI(M) used democratic means of protest, but this should not be viewed as the weakness of the party, he warned.
After the LDF came to power in Kerala, five CPI(M) workers has been murdered and more than 300 injured, he said. Kodiyeri Balakrishnan said that the party would organize a nation-wide campaign against the RSS violence.
Meanwhile, BJP state general secretary M T Ramesh said in Kozhikode that Kodiyeri's statement smacks of feudalism.
"Pinarayi Vijayan is the chief minister of the state and it is he who should take the lead in peace efforts. The RSS and BJP leadership is ready for dialogue. But we will not go to the AKG Centre pleading for it," he said.
