Presenting a paper onDemocracy and Freedom of Expression” on the second day of the 82nd Akhila Bharatha Kannada Sahitya Sammelana here on Saturday, Govindaraj expressed his concern on “inevitability” of writers to live amid police protection.

Recalling a recent incident, he said that after the murder of scholar Dr M?M?Kalburgi, writers held a protest meet and submitted a memorandum to the government seeking steps to trace the assailants.

“We also expressed our suspicion about some people. Following this, a person from Raichur threatened to raze my house. Police protection was given to my house, though I refused it,” he said.

Giraddi said that K?S?Bhagwan too was facing a similar threat. “I do not concur with his statements nor do I accept his philosophy. But, threatening him is not acceptable. He too has been provided police protection.” Kalburgi wrote an article on Shivasharanas in 1986 and faced a lot of problems because of it. “People are not fond of telling truth always. But, they face trouble in case they tell the truth,”?Govindaraj said.

He said that electronic media had not been discharging its duties responsibly. They keep airing a footage the whole day and behave “aggressively.”

A huge chasm has developed between the rightists and leftists and intolerance has been on the rise in the state. In order to bridge this gap, the principles of both the sides should be adopted.

Mysuru won tough race to host next meet

Several districts competed to host the 83rd Akhila Bharatha Kannada Sahitya Sammelana and Mysuru emerged the winner. At the meeting of the Kannada Sahitya Parishat (KSP) held in Raichur on Saturday, representatives from Haveri, Dharwad, Chikkamagaluru, Uttara Kannada, Mysuru and Chikkaballapur offered to host the literary festival in their respective districts. Dharwad district KSP president Lingaraj Angadi, who insisted that the event be held in Dharwad, sought a secret ballot. He even boycotted the meeting, but was eventually brought back.

After eliciting opinion of the members of the executive committee, it was decided to conduct the event in Mysuru, KSP?president Manu Baligar said.

Mangaluru: Former MLC Ivan D’Souza on Monday led a delegation to the Passport Seva Kendra in Mangaluru, urging the authorities to provide basic facilities for applicants. D’Souza addressed the media, highlighting the lack of essential amenities at the Mangaluru PSK. “I have requested the authorities to provide basic facilities for people visiting the PSK.

There are no chairs for the convenience of people who arrive at the PSK. They are forced to sit or stand by the side of the road or on footpaths. Additionally, there is no parking facility, no washrooms, and water has not been provided for the public,” the Congress leader stated.

An average of 500 to 600 people from various parts of the state visit the PSK. They have to wait in the scorching heat of the sun, D’Souza mentioned, urging the govt to address these issues promptly. “Officials have agreed to find solutions to the problems faced by the people. Meanwhile, we have also demanded that the PSK be relocated to a more convenient space. We have suggested that the PSK could be moved to the old DC’s office, where there is sufficient space. If our demands are not met, we will hold a protest,” D’Souza explained.

Ashraf Kinara, vice-president of the Dakshina Kannada Waqf Advisory Committee, echoed the sentiment, stating that the authorities should either provide all basic facilities for passport applicants at the PSK or relocate the centre to a better location.

Hassan MP and Lok Sabha election candidate of the BJP-JD(S) alliance Prajwal Revanna, who is facing an inquiry over the alleged sexual abuse of several women, said the truth will prevail.

The MP, who left the country as soon as the election to his constituency ended, has also sought seven days' time to appear before the Special Investigation Team (SIT) formed by the Karnataka government to inquire into the huge cache of about 3,000 explicit videos and photos allegedly pertaining to him, which have gone viral on social media.

“As I am not in Bangalore to attend the enquiry, I have communicated to CID Bangalore through my advocate. Truth will prevail soon,” Prajwal, grandson of former prime minister and JD(S) patriarch H D Deve Gowda, said in a post on X.

A case has been registered against MLA and former minister H D Revanna and his son Prajwal at Holenarasipura on a complaint lodged by their former cook and relative for allegedly sexually harassing her.

She also alleged that Prajwal made video calls to her daughter and spoke in an objectionable manner, which forced her to block him.

The MP who is seeking re-election from Hassan on a JD(S) ticket, shared a letter by his lawyer Arun G to the Deputy Superintendent of Police of the SIT, in which he has sought seven days' time to appear before the official because he is abroad.

Bengaluru, May 6: Arrested JD-S MLA H.D. Revanna, the son of former PM H.D. Deve Gowda, on Sunday said that there is no evidence against him in the sex video scandal kidnapping case and that it was a "conspiracy" against him.

Talking to the media, while being taken for a medical test before being produced in front of a court here, Revanna stated that a kidnapping case had been lodged against him though he does not have 'one black mark' against him in his entire career of 40 years.

"Without evidence, I have been targeted... All allegations against me are false. My arrest has been made out of ill intention," he claimed.

"The case was lodged on April 28, then, they did not have any evidence. Later, the fake evidence was created on May 2 and I was fixed," he alleged.

Home Minister Dr G. Parameshwara stated on Sunday that a Blue Corner notice has already been issued against Revanna's son and MP Prajwal Revanna, the prime accused in the sex video scandal, as he is believed to be abroad.

"The Interpol will communicate to all nations and he will be located. Once he is located, the SIT will take a call on how he should be secured and brought back to India," he added.

Revanna was arrested on Saturday on charges of kidnapping one of the victims of the sex video scandal.

Parameshwara further maintained that the arrest of Revanna has saddened JD-S leaders and if action was not taken, the SIT would be blamed too.

Meanwhile, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge refused to comment on the alleged sex video scandal involving Prajwal Revanna.

About Revanna's arrest, he said that the SIT would initiate action as per the law. "Those indulging in such acts must be taught a lesson and justice should be given to the families of victims. No one can escape the law. No one should use this case politically," he stated.
