Bengaluru, Dec 7: A sub-inspector and four constables were arrested on Monday for robbing a businessman of Rs 35.5 lakh near Peenya on November 22. They colluded with two welders to threaten and rob Gangadhar, a mobile shop owner from Tumukuru district, police said. All those involved in the crime — Sub-inspector Mallikarjun, constables Manjunath, Girish, Chandrashekar and Anantharaju, police informant Jaffer and his friend Bhaskar — are now in custody, a senior police officer said.

The Peenya police have recovered Rs 16 lakh in cash, and are looking for the rest of the stash. From Kunigal, Gangadhar had brought the cash to 8th Mile, Peenya, the police said. After he was robbed, Gangadhar took 12 days to approach the Peenya police and register a complaint. When the police began investigation, they found that welders Jaffer and Bhaskar had first contacted Ganga-dhar. After demonetisation, they would randomly call up people and offer to get their black money converted.

When they called up Gangadhar, he told them he had enough new notes, and was willing to trade them for old ones. The operators from Bengaluru offered him a 30% commission if he could exchange Rs 35.5 lakh, and he agreed.Bhaskar and Gangadhar then set up a place to meet, the police officer said. Bhaskar and Jaffer had no plans to exchange any money though, and were scheming to rob Gangadhar. They roped in sub-inspector Mallikarjun and promised him a share, the officer said.

“Bhaskar and Jaffer met Gangadhar at the 8th Mile. As planned, Mallikarjun and the constables showed up, saying they were policemen. They asked Gangadhar to account for the cash. When he failed to show any papers, they grabbed the money and fled,” the officer said.

ID card clueGangadhar gave the police the number from which Bhaskar and Jaffer had called him up. “We traced its location to Kalasipalyam. Gangadhar said one of those who had robbed him had showed him a police ID?card with the name of Mallikarjun,” the officer recalled. That turned out to be a vital clue. The police checked their personal records and found a sub-inspector with that name at the Kalasipalyam police station.

Jaffer's mobile phone was also tracked to Kalasipalyam, where he is a habitual offender. Investigators contacted Mallikarjun and asked him about Jaffer. He claimed Jaffer was in police custody.

“But when we questioned Mallikarjun closely, he confessed and gave out the names of the accomplices,” the officer said.

Karwar, May 5: What commenced as a mere exchange of words between spouses swiftly transmuted into a calamitous ordeal, resulting in the heartbreaking loss of their innocent offspring. The heart-wrenching incident unfolded in the serene confines of Halamaddy village in the picturesque expanse of Dandeli, nestled within the idyllic expanse of Uttara Kannada district.

In the throes of a fervent dispute with her spouse, the aggrieved wife, succumbing to an overwhelming surge of emotions, callously propelled their tender six-year-old progeny into the somber depths of a nearby canal, thereafter alerting the local populace to her grievous act.

Promptly apprised of the distressing occurrence by concerned bystanders, the authorities were swiftly summoned to the scene to confront the harrowing aftermath.

Responding to the distress call, the diligent officers of Dandeli rural police swiftly converged upon the site where the innocent child had been cast into the unforgiving waters of the canal, subsequently effecting the retrieval of the child's lifeless form.

Regrettably, it was discerned that a portion of the child's remains had been tragically claimed by the lurking jaws of a predatory crocodile.

Hassan MP and Lok Sabha election candidate of the BJP-JD(S) alliance Prajwal Revanna, who is facing an inquiry over the alleged sexual abuse of several women, said the truth will prevail.

The MP, who left the country as soon as the election to his constituency ended, has also sought seven days' time to appear before the Special Investigation Team (SIT) formed by the Karnataka government to inquire into the huge cache of about 3,000 explicit videos and photos allegedly pertaining to him, which have gone viral on social media.

“As I am not in Bangalore to attend the enquiry, I have communicated to CID Bangalore through my advocate. Truth will prevail soon,” Prajwal, grandson of former prime minister and JD(S) patriarch H D Deve Gowda, said in a post on X.

A case has been registered against MLA and former minister H D Revanna and his son Prajwal at Holenarasipura on a complaint lodged by their former cook and relative for allegedly sexually harassing her.

She also alleged that Prajwal made video calls to her daughter and spoke in an objectionable manner, which forced her to block him.

The MP who is seeking re-election from Hassan on a JD(S) ticket, shared a letter by his lawyer Arun G to the Deputy Superintendent of Police of the SIT, in which he has sought seven days' time to appear before the official because he is abroad.

Bengaluru, May 6: Arrested JD-S MLA H.D. Revanna, the son of former PM H.D. Deve Gowda, on Sunday said that there is no evidence against him in the sex video scandal kidnapping case and that it was a "conspiracy" against him.

Talking to the media, while being taken for a medical test before being produced in front of a court here, Revanna stated that a kidnapping case had been lodged against him though he does not have 'one black mark' against him in his entire career of 40 years.

"Without evidence, I have been targeted... All allegations against me are false. My arrest has been made out of ill intention," he claimed.

"The case was lodged on April 28, then, they did not have any evidence. Later, the fake evidence was created on May 2 and I was fixed," he alleged.

Home Minister Dr G. Parameshwara stated on Sunday that a Blue Corner notice has already been issued against Revanna's son and MP Prajwal Revanna, the prime accused in the sex video scandal, as he is believed to be abroad.

"The Interpol will communicate to all nations and he will be located. Once he is located, the SIT will take a call on how he should be secured and brought back to India," he added.

Revanna was arrested on Saturday on charges of kidnapping one of the victims of the sex video scandal.

Parameshwara further maintained that the arrest of Revanna has saddened JD-S leaders and if action was not taken, the SIT would be blamed too.

Meanwhile, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge refused to comment on the alleged sex video scandal involving Prajwal Revanna.

About Revanna's arrest, he said that the SIT would initiate action as per the law. "Those indulging in such acts must be taught a lesson and justice should be given to the families of victims. No one can escape the law. No one should use this case politically," he stated.
