Police form 3 teams to probe suicide of KAS officer's driver

December 9, 2016

Mandya/Ballari/New Delhi, Dec 9: The Mandya district police have formed three teams to investigate the suicide of Ramesh Gowda, the official driver of Bheema Naik, special land acquisition officer, Bengaluru Urban district. Gowda had made startling revelations in this regard in a death letter on Tuesday.

Speaking to reporters in Mandya, Superintendent of Police C?H?Sudheer Kumar Reddy said the police were collecting CCTV footage from Samrat Lodge on the Mysuru-Bengaluru highway, where Gowda had committed suicide.

As Gowda has accused Naik of money laundering and corruption, the police have also alerted the Income Tax and Anti-Corruption Bureau sleuths.

According to Gowda's death note, he was facing death threats from Naik and his personal car driver Mohammed,?as he knew all the secrets of the officer.

Family members of Gowda have demanded a thorough investigation and stringent punishment for Naik and Mohammed. Speaking to DH, Mahendra, brother of Gowda, said he committed suicide as Naik and Mohammed harassed him. According to Mahendra, Gowda had told his friends that he had booked a room in Samrat Lodge for the guests of his boss.

Gowda's mother Sakamma said that three months ago, he had told her that Naik was harassing him. “Naik should be held responsible for the death of Gowda and punished,” she said. However, Naik had appreciated Gowda for his work, Sakamma said.

Intelligence sleuths on Thursday visited the office of the tahsildar in Ballari to collect details of Naik's service here.

Former chief minister B S Yeddyurappa on Thursday demanded a detailed probe into the charges made against Naik.

“The suicide note tells many stories. The state government must probe it, to bring the culprits to book,” he told reporters in New Delhi.

If any politician, including former minister G Janardhana Reddy, is involved in converting black money into white, they must be punished without succumbing any pressure, he said.

Pointing out the recent incident of two officials being caught with huge amount of cash and gold, Yeddyurappa said this indicated how the state government was functioning. Most of the funds allocated for development works had been swindled by officials and people in power in the state, he said.

Naik had tainted past as tahsildar

Controversy is not new to KAS?officer Bheema Naik, reports DHNS from Gangavathi in Koppal district.

The KAS?officer was under suspension between July 21, 2010, and July 20, 2011, when he was the Gangavathi tahsildar, for harassing his subordinates. He was also accused of involvement in illegal mining. Naik was later transferred from Gangavathi. Cases pertaining to this are still pending against Naik in a local court. He also faced charges of giving cultivation chits in violation of rules. A few other officials had been suspended along with him. The FIR?had been filed on August 18, 2011. Naik has been accused of pressuring the staff to give out various certificates. There was also a case of assault on an employee by name Hyder against the officer. The employee had tried to commit suicide.

Mangaluru: A native of Kerala was arrested on charge of misbehaving with crew on an Air India Express flight while travelling from Dubai to Mangaluru International Airport. The man even threatened to jump from the aircraft, according to officials.

Siddartha Das, the security coordinator for Air India Express, lodged a complaint against the passenger, identified as Muhammad BC from Kannur, Kerala, after which he was caught by the airport security once the flight landed at Mangaluru. He was later handed over to the police.

DCP (Law and Order) Sidharth Goyal said the incident occurred on Flight IX814 on May 8.

When the flight was above the sea, Muhammad reportedly said he wanted to get off the plane, posing a threat to all on board. The unruly flyer was detained by airport security once the flight landed at Mangaluru International Airport and he was handed over to Bajpe police station officials.

Sources added once the flight took off from Dubai, the accused went to the lavatory and thereafter started inquiring with the cabin crew about a person named Krishna who was not on the flight. Muhammad kept on pressing the bell for in-flight assistance, even though the cabin crew members were near at hand. He then picked up a life jacket, gave it to a crew member, and said he wanted to use it upon landing.

devaraje gowda.jpg

In a fresh claim, arrested BJP leader and advocate G Devaraje Gowda has alleged that Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar and four other ministers were behind exposing Prajwal Revanna’s sex scam that has brought disgrace to Janata Dal (Secular) H D Deve Gowda family.

Devaraje Gowda has been arrested in a sexual abuse case.

Speaking to reporters while being taken to the district prisons, in Hassan on Friday, Gowda alleged that he was offered Rs 100 crore to drag the name of H D Kumaraswamy in the Prajwal’s case.

“D K Shivakumar had offered me Rs 100 crore to project that H D Kumaraswamy was behind the case. The offer was made through ministers N Chaluvarayaswamy, Krishna Byre Gowda, Priyank Kharge and another minister. They had even sent Rs 5 crore as advance to Bowring Club. But I did not agree. Hence, they hatched a plot to trap me,” Gowda alleged.

“It is D K Shivakumar, who collected all information from Prajwal Revanna’s former car driver Karthik and readied the pen drive. A team of four ministers were formed to handle the issue. As I did not agree to the plan. They planned to bring disrepute to the BJP, Narendra Modi and H D Kumaraswamy,” he said.

Gowda further alleged that former MLC M A Gopalaswamy of Channarayapatna was sent to him for negotiation.

“The main intention of D K Shivakumar is to bring disrepute to Modi and BJP in the case. Besides, he wanted to defame H D Kumaraswamy’s leadership in the state” he claimed. “They filed a sexual harassment and rape case against me, but found no evidence. Now, they are trying to fix me in the pen drive case” he alleged.

dengue.jpg

Mangaluru, May 8: The health officials in Dakshina Kannada are concerned over the increase in dengue cases in the rural areas of the district. They've seen 108 cases since January, compared to 45 last year.

Dr. Naveen Chandra Kulal, who works on controlling diseases spread by insects, says humidity makes mosquitoes breed more.

People storing water in pots and drums during summer also make more mosquitoes, he added.

In Lingappayyakadu village near Mulky, a survey found people store lots of water because they don't have regular drinking water. Dr. Kulal says this water becomes a place for mosquitoes to breed if containers aren't closed properly.

Dengue cases are also rising in Bengaluru, Mysuru, and other districts, he said. Even though there haven't been big groups of dengue cases in Dakshina Kannada yet, the health department is trying hard to stop it from spreading. They're doing things like teaching people how to prevent dengue and getting rid of places where mosquitoes can breed.

So far this year, Dakshina Kannada district has only had 16 cases of malaria. Dr. Kulal says many of these cases were among workers who came from other states to work on building sites.

Dr. Thimmaiah HR, who works for the health department, says if people have a fever, they should go to the nearest clinic or hospital. He also says they should get tested if they have symptoms of dengue or malaria and be careful about the hot weather.
