Kasargod, Jan 13: A day after Bovikkanam witnessing violence and arson involving pro-CPI (M) youth wing workers and RSS-BJP loyalists, the police on Thursday registered cases against 16 DYFI activists.
Tension prevailed in the town as a group of DYFI workers torched a car of a Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) activist, before vandalising his shop on Wednesday.
The incident occurred when a group of DYFI workers were staging a march hailing the Supreme Court verdict on disbursal of Rs.5 lakh compensation to eligible endosulfan victims.
Meanwhile, the VHP observed ablack day' in protest against the unprovoked attack on a BJP worker while he was travelling in his autorickshaw.
Traders observed a daylong hartal in the town to protest against the attack on a few shops.
