PMO forced I-T to reopen Govindaraj diary case, says Digvijaya Singh

February 27, 2017

“Why no action was taken for 11 months? Why did you (the Centre) remain quiet?...They (the BJP leaders) are in power and ED (Enforcement Directorate) and I-T department are under their control. Action can be taken if the charges are true,” AICC?genertal secretary Digvijaya Singh told reporters here, on seeking his reaction to the Govindaraj diary in which details of some senior ministers from Karnataka having paid huge sums of money to the Congress high command are reportedly mentioned.

Seeks BJP response

Singh claimed that the diary is a fake one and was planted by the I-T authorities. The person who is accused of having maintained the diary (KPCC treasurer K Govindaraj) has denied that it belonged to him. If details mentioned in it (diary) are true, what is stopping the Centre from sending it to a forensic science laboratory and take up the investigation? (sic)” he asked.

He demanded that the state BJP president B S Yeddyurappa and Union Minister Ananth Kumar respond to the charges that the BJP MLC Lahar Singh paid huge sums of money to the party high command, including the then Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi, in 2013.

Under illusion

“They (the BJP leaders) are under illusion if they think that the Congress can be cowed down by making such charges,” Singh added. Sources in the Congress said that Singh, while chairing the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) coordination committee meeting earlier in the day, said that he will convene a meeting of all ministers in Bengaluru during the coming budget session of the legislature to discuss preparations for the 2018 Assembly elections. Besides, the KPCC executive committee meeting will soon be held in Hubballi.

Siddaramaiah hurt by ‘migrant’ tag

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah is learnt to have expressed his dissatisfaction over a section of Congress leaders still treating him as an outsider. Speaking at the KPCC coordination committee meeting, he is learnt to have said that many in the party still treat him as a migrant though he has remained loyal to the party. Congress president Sonia Gandhi herself inducted him to the party in 2006. There is no need for anybody to doubt his loyalty to the party, Siddaramaiah, who turned emotional, stated.

He also took exception to some Congress leaders accusing him of giving priority to the people of his Kuruba community and repeatedly complaining against his government to the party high command. Senior leader C K Jaffer Sharief had recently termed the government ‘Kuruba government’ but had later apologised for his remark. Many members of the coordination committee, including B Janardhana Poojary, R V Deshpande, B K Hariprasad, M?B?Patil and Sharief, did not attend the meeting.

Bengaluru, Apr 29: HD Revanna, the father of Karnataka MP Prajwal Revanna, has accused rivals of creating a conspiracy out of "old videos", a comment that is likely to raise a bigger row over his son's alleged link to the obscene videos.

A woman yesterday filed a police case against Prajwal Revanna and his father over alleged sexual assault. Prajwal Revanna, the Janata Dal (Secular) MP and grandson of former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda, has denied the latest allegations and also filed a police complaint over circulation of obscene videos, which he said were morphed.

Prajwal Revanna left for Germany on Saturday morning after voting in the Lok Sabha elections a day earlier.

"I know what kind of conspiracy is going on. I am not someone who'll get scared and run away. They have released something that was 4-5 years old. Expelling him from the party is left to the party high command," HD Revanna said.

When it was pointed out that an FIR has been registered against him too, he said, "There is politics, I don't want to comment. They (Congress) are in government and they will do whatever they want."

"All these things are not just today, the Deve Gowda family in the last 40 years (has been targeted by) Congress. CoD (now CID), Lokayukta probe, we have been facing for the last 40 years... I don't want to react to anything...let them take action in accordance with law," he said, adding that he hasn't spoken to Deve Gowda on the issue.

"Since the special investigation team is looking into the case, I will not react any further," HD Revanna said.

Yesterday, a first information report was filed against the father-son duo on charges of sexual harassment, intimidation and outraging the dignity of a woman.

The survivor alleged both sexually assaulted her, and when Revanna's wife was not home, he touched her inappropriately and used to sexually assault her. The complainant alleged Prajwal Revanna also misbehaved with her daughter over a video call. "My daughter blocked his number after repeated calls," the complainant said.

The latest FIR comes when Prajwal Revanna is already in the middle of a controversy after some objectionable videos went viral on social media allegedly involving him.

Prajwal Revanna is seeking a fresh term in the Lok Sabha from as a National Democratic Alliance (NDA) candidate from Hassan.

The JD(S) on Tuesday, April 30, announced that former Indian Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda's grandson Prajwal Revanna has been suspended from the party temporarily until allegations against him over sexual abuse are probed.

Revanna and his father HD Revanna, also a JD(S) MLA, were booked on Sunday by the police for sexual harassment and criminal intimidation based on a complaint from a woman, who worked in their household.

"We welcome SIT against Prajwal Revanna. We've taken a decision to recommend our party's national president to suspend him from the party till the SIT investigation is completed, " JD(S) core committee president GT Devegowda said.

Revanna currently is not in India. Opposition members raised concerns over how he was allowed to leave the country.

"A decision was already made. Tomorrow it is to be recommended at the core committee meeting in Hubballi. Because he (Prajwal) is a Member of Parliament, it has to be done from Delhi. So I had requested Deve Gowda (JD(S) National President and former PM). Neither he (Gowda) nor I were aware of this issue," party chief H D Kumaraswamy has said yesterday. "Some issues have come out, based on that it has been decided yesterday itself to suspend (him). But many were in a hurry."

Prajwal, 33, represents the BJP-JD(S) alliance in the Lok Sabha election in Hassan, which happened on Friday.

Kumaraswamy alleged that Congress was manipulating facts to destroy the image of his family amid the controversy over the 'obscene' video case against his nephew Prajwal.

"We are not going to protect him, we will take severe action but the government's responsibility is more," Kumaraswamy said.

"This is the manipulation of Congress to destroy the image of our family. What is the role of Dewegowda Ji or me? We are not responsible for all those things. This is the individual issue of Prajwal Revanna. I am not in contact with him (Prajwal). It is the responsibility of the government to bring him before the law. Morally we have decided to make some decisions," Kumaraswamy told reporters on Tuesday.

Prajwal Revanna sex scandal

The state government under CM Siddaramaiah has formed a Special Investigation Team to look into the matter. In recent days, certain explicit video clips purportedly featuring Prajwal have circulated in Hassan.

In response, Revanna stated his willingness to cooperate with any investigation regarding the allegations of sexual abuse against his son and himself. He affirmed their readiness to accept any legal consequences if the accusations are substantiated.

Prajwal's father HD Revanna said that his son would appear for an SIT probe whenever he is asked to.

A case of sexual harassment and stalking was registered on Sunday against HD Revanna and Prajwal Revanna at Holenarasipur police station based on a complaint by their cook.

The complainant said she is a relative of Revanna's wife Bhavani.

She claimed that four months into her employment, Revanna began sexually harassing her, while his son Prajwal engaged in video calls with her daughter, engaging in "vulgar conversations."

She also alleged that there is a threat to her life as well as other members of her family.

Mangaluru, May 3: The Mangaluru City Corporation will resort to water rationing from May 5 as the Thumbe vented dam, which supplies drinking water to the city, is facing a shortage in water storage.

Instead of daily supply, water will be supplied on alternate days, the Executive Engineer (Water Supply) at the corporation said in a release.

The release said that water will be supplied to Mangaluru City North on May 5. There will be no water supply to Mangaluru City North on May 6. Instead water will be supplied to Mangaluru City South on May 6. Likewise the supply on alternate days will continue.

The inflow in the Netravathi has stopped, the release said, requesting people to cooperate with the corporation and not waste water for washing vehicles and other purposes.

An engineer at the corporation said that water level at the dam stood at 4.27 m on Wednesday against the full storage level of 6 m. If water is supplied daily to the entire city (Mangaluru City North and Mangaluru City South) the existing storage will last only for 16 days, the engineer said. Hence the decision to supply water on alternate days has been taken to supply water till May-end.
