Mangaluru, Mar 20: The police have arrested two youths in connection with a case relating to an alleged bid to extort Rs 1 crore as ransom from a proprietor of a bar outlet at Thokkottu in Mangaluru taluk.
They were remanded in judicial custody by a court in Kasargod.
A senior police officer said the duo, said to be accomplices of a six-member gang, had facilitated the miscreants in their bid to extort the ransom amount from Sreedhara Shetty at the behest of underworld don ‘Kali Yogesh,’ believed to be operating from Thailand.
A complaint filed by Mr. Shetty alleged that the don had called him on phone at least eight times between March 3 and March 16 asking him to pay the ransom amount to his gangsters, who are reported to have threatened Mr. Shetty and his family to pay the money at gun point.
However, Mr. Shetty lodged a complaint with the Kumbla police eventually paving way for the arrest of the duo under IPC Section 201 (causing disappearance of evidence or giving false information) as the court set them free on bail.
