Mangaluru, May 25: Dalit activist and Social Democratic Party of India leader Koosappa passed away after a brief period of illness at a private hospital in the city on Thursday. He was 52.
He was the state advisory committee member of SDPI. He also served as the state convener of Karnataka Dalit Sangharsh Samiti (Prof. B. Krishnappa unit).
He had contested 2013 Karnataka Assembly polls as SDPI candidate in Sullia constituency.
He hailed from Kuriya village in Puttur taluk. He is survived by his wife, two sons, a daughter and a large number of relatives and friends.
Senior SDPI leaders including its state president Abdul Hannan have expressed heartfelt condolences on the demise of Dalit leader.
SDPI DK district president Haneef Khan Kodaje among others paid last respect to the departed soul.
ISF condoles
In its condolence message, the Karnataka chapter of Indian Social Forum (ISF), Eastern Province, Saudi Arabia, has said that the demise of Koosappa is a great loss for SDPI and Dalit community.
