New Delhi, Apr 17: The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has cancelled the business visa of Bangladeshi actor Ferdous Ahmed and issued him a notice to immediately leave India.
The Bangladeshi superstar, who has acted in a number of Bengali films in India as well, has been blacklisted from the country.
Ferdous Ahmed has already left the country and returned home.
This comes after the government was given a report by the Bureau of Immigration, stating that Ferdous Ahmed had committed visa violations.
Sources said none of the categories for visa allow for a foreigner to participate in a political campaign.
Ferdous Ahmed was campaigning for Trinamool Congress candidates in Bengal for the Lok Sabha elections.
On Monday, Ferdous campaigned in Karandighi and Chakulia areas of North Dinajpur and on Sunday, he was expected to participate in road shows at Raiganj and Hemtabad along with Tollywood actors Payel Sarkar and Ankush.
A major political row broke out over popular film star Ferdous Ahmed being roped in for Trinamool Congress's campaign.
BJP has lodged a complaint with the Election Commission claiming Ferdous's campaigning for Trinamool violated the Model Code of Conduct.
State BJP leaders Jay Prakash Majumdar and Sisir Bajoria met the state's Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Ariz Aftab and urged him to take appropriation action over the alleged violation of the model code.
