Lucknow, Oct 14: The Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP)-led seers on Monday demanded that they be allowed to light “thousands of lamps” and do puja at the disputed site in Ayodhya on October 27, Diwali. Divisional Commissioner (DC) Manoj Mishra has, however, reportedly denied them permission.

A delegation of seers from Ayodhya and VHP spokesperson Sharad Sharma met the DC and handed him a memorandum containing the demand.

The delegation argued that it “hurt the religious sentiments” of Hindus that they could not light lamps on the “janmabhoomi premises” even as Diwali, which Hindus believe marks the return to Ayodhya of Lord Ram after defeating Ravan in Lanka, is celebrated across the country.

The delegation comprised Mahant Kanhaiyadas, president of Sant Samiti, Ayodhya; Mahant Kamalnayan Das of Maniramdas Chanvi; Mahant Avadhbihari Das of Sri Ramcharitramanas Bhavan; and local BJP leader Vaishya Vinod Jaiswal.

The restrictions

This comes amid the imposition of restrictions under Section 144 in Ayodhya till December 10 in anticipation of the Babri Masjid-Ram Janmabhoomi case verdict in the Supreme Court as well as the upcoming religious festivals in the town.

The restrictions would come into force from October 12, District Magistrate (DM) Anuj Kumar Jha had said.

As per the two-page official order, flying of drones and unmanned aerial vehicles in the Ayodhya parameter without the permission of the authority concerned is not allowed. There is also a ban on overloading of boats within the boundary of Ayodhya. The manufacture and sale of firecrackers on Diwali would be allowed only after obtaining permission from the magistrate concerned.

“The order has been issued considering safety and security of Ayodhya and those visiting here as Govt’s [sic] paramount concerns,” Mr. Jha said on Twitter late on Sunday.

The restrictions were imposed keeping in mind not just the possible Ayodhya verdict but also the number of coming religious events and festivals like Diwali, Narak Chaturdarshi, Gowardhan Puja, Bhaiya Dooj, Chitragupt Jayanti, Chehelom, 14 Kosi and Panch Kosi parikramas, Karthik Purnima Mela, Guru Nanak Jayanti, Barawafat and Chhath Puja, he said.

December 6 is the anniversary of the Babri Masjid demolition. The Mughal-era mosque was razed down by a mob of Hindutva activists on December 6, 1992.

Mr. Jha said an order had been issued on August 31 covering unlawful assemblies and undesirable activities.

“The order dated 12.10.2019 has been issued to cover a couple of points which were not there in the earlier order,” he said.

Mangaluru International Airport (MIA) has taken a step towards enhancing aircraft safety and has planned to install a Precision Approach Lighting (PAL) category 1 system near Sri Kordabbu Daivasthana, Unile.

The groundbreaking ceremony was held on Friday. The project involves various works related to the PAL system and aims to be completed in 20 months.

The airport has undertaken this project in accordance with safety recommendations from the ministry of civil aviation and the civil aviation safety and security regulator. The PAL CAT 1 system will provide pilots with improved visibility of runway 24 and guidance during their final landing approach. The system will be installed 900m from the threshold of runway 24, as this end of the runway accounts for 90% of aircraft landings at the airport.

The PAL will be mounted on approximately 18 lattice structures, which is a unique feature of the project. The lights will be fixed to frangible T-shaped structures. The project will complement the installation of runway centerline lights, which has already been completed and is awaiting approval from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation for commissioning.

The International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol) on Monday responded to Karnataka’s Special Investigation Team (SIT) regarding a blue corner notice issued against JDS MP Prajwal Revanna.

In its response, Interpol said that all 196 member countries were alerted to identify and report if Prajwal Revanna is spotted at any port in their jurisdiction.

The Karnataka government issued a Blue Corner Notice on Sunday against Prajwal Revanna, who is facing allegations of sexual abuse by his staff members.

A Blue Corner Notice is issued by the international police cooperation body to collect additional information from its member countries about a person’s identity, location or activities about a crime.

The notice was issued after the 33-year-old Hassan MP reportedly flew to Germany soon after the Karnataka State Commission for Women chairperson Nagalakshmi Chowdhary wrote to the CM to order a probe into the sexual allegations against Prajwal.

Last week, the anticipatory bail application of Prajwal Revanna was also denied by Justice Santosh Gajanana Bhat’s bench of People’s Representative Court in Bengaluru.

Earlier, his MLA father and son of former Prime Minster HD Deve Gowda, HD Revanna was remanded to Karnataka SIT custody in a kidnapping-related sex scandal case.

His arrest came after the kidnapped victim was rescued from Revanna’s close assistant Rajasekhar’s farmhouse in Kalenahalli, Hunsur Taluk after the SIT conducted the rescue operation to find her, the police said.

The abduction case was filed by the son of a woman who worked at the Revannas’ house for nearly five years. He alleged that his mother was kidnapped from her home on April 29 by Satish Babanna a relative of Revanna.

The Karnataka Sex Scandal case pertains to explicit video clips allegedly involving the 33-year-old Prajwal, grandson of JD(S) patriarch and former Prime Minister H D Deve Gowda, which went viral on social media.

Those videos began to make rounds in Hassan in recent days, following which the state government constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the sexual abuse allegations against the MP.
