Mangalore, Sep 23: Two persons hailing from Kerala were arrested on Tuesday in a joint operation by Puttur town and Puttur rural police, in connection with several cases of burglary in Puttur and Sullia taluks in the past two years.
The arrested have been identified as Kabeer alias P A Ahmed Kabeer, aged 23, resident of Kavumballa in Chattanchal village and Sajuddin alias Farooq, aged 30, resident of Mangad village in Kasargod taluk, Kerala.
Briefing media persons at a press conference here on Tuesday, DK Superintendent of Police S D Sharanappa said that the duo had been arrested in nine cases of house burglaries in Puttur and Sullia taluks from August 2012.
The police teams have recovered several items of gold jewellery weighing 304 grams, worth Rs 8.5 lakhs, stolen from houses, along with a Hero Honda motorcycle (KL-14-H-5766) worth Rs 50,000 from the houses of the arrested, he said.
Based on information, the accused were nabbed by the police in Arlapadavu in Puttur rural station limits at 5.30 a.m. on Tuesday, while checking of vehicles at a check-point. Riding a motorcycle, the two were instructed to stop for checking when they made an attempt to flee. However, they were swiftly caught by the police personnel.
Both the arrested have a previous criminal record of house burglaries in Dakshina Kannada and Kasargod districts, it is learnt.
Under the supervision of SP Sharanappa and ASP T P Shivakumar, teams of Puttur town police and Puttur rural police, led by Puttur assistant superintendent of police H D Mendonsa, jointly conducted the investigation and nabbed the duo.
